Ha! Yeah, right, Stew Smith eats at McDonald's and recommends everyone do the same to lose weight because the only thing that matters is reducing calories. Funny stuff, m8!

Yes, losing weight, or making weight for a competition, is one thing but losing fat and trying to retain or even gain muscle is another.
Calories in/calories out is just common sense, but from what most of us on this site want is lose fat and keep muscles. The concentration camp victims were on a starvation plus hard labor regimen and the result was disastrous.
The video I posted sheds light on the delicate intricacies of how the chemical structures in whole foods act in conjunction with the body vs. the fact that 'dead' food with no nutrients like cake or ice cream or over-processed fast food greatly diminish or negate those bodily processes for keeping muscle on the body.
It's basically saying calories in/out but use good whole foods to do it, not McCrap stuff.

I wouldn't eat McDonalds even if it was healthy if it tasted the way it does now. I just don't understand how something that is so unlike proper beefburgers is so successful?

Bro’ Steve, I guess you’ve never trained around successful competitive bodybuilders like I have, because if you had then you’d see some things that go far against some of the stuff that passes for ‘wisdom’ posted on forums like this one….

I've seen some train, but not as many as you have and I never saw what they ingested or took in. I have seen a number of pro wrestlers of the 80's who were more like bodybuilders on bulk cycles (some more bulky than others) and all ate every few hours except they stopped about 4pm as they had to be in the ring in a few hours and most of them ate fast food places daily but were also on stuff.

There was a White Castle about a block away from where I grew up in The Bronx at the juncture of White Plains Rd and Boston Post Rd. It had some excellent visibility over a nice chunk of the neighborhood. I'm pretty sure if one of these old fellas spotted something that looked out of place in the neighborhood, they would be out of their seat and be on the phone to Vito, Tony, or some such. It had to be done by pay phone then too.

Here Bro’ Steve, this may pertain to your queries… ? I didn't make any queries, I just shared info that seemed well said to me. My common sense says it's calories in/out with the caveat that an baked potato and a piece of broiled chicken is better than a big mac and fries. This video said the same as we've all seen many times talking about in-shape younger guys with nothing to do but train, eat, and sleep. I'm talking about guys who are older, the hard gainers with much less than perfect genetics and for longevity - those from the standpoint of who is mostly on this board not competitive bodybuilding or BUD's (18 to 29 yr olds) candidates. I did high rep cal's daily and it didn't work for me just like it doesn't work for many. Does Herschel really do that many reps daily? Outwork the diet? Then he goes on to say gotta reduce the diet. Concentration camp guys are starving and working all day and even if you feed them bacon fat by the quart there's no nutrition in it for them. I wouldn't compare a few tablespoons of peanut butter to McDonalds.

I thought it was sort of a question when you stated "Calories in/calories out is just common sense, but from what most of us on this site want is lose fat and keep muscles." ? But anyway, what works when someone is young will work when they're older as well, just may have to modify things. in the video Stew stated that it's going to take a bit more to lose the weight after approx age 50, so the calories need reducing further. Did you see my earlier post ?... Trainers like Stew regularly work with older guys that need to lose weight and keep it off; what works for them will work for anyone else. Forget all the complicated nonsense from medical doctors and other eggheads that are all about theory and "studies", just give basic simplicity a shot and get it done... Here's the post: Formula #1: Calories OUT > Calories IN = Weight LossThis formula is as basic as weight loss gets. Though there is much debate on this theory, I do agree that a calorie of carbohydrates does not equal a calories of protein. So not all calories are equal. You need to limit your sugar - NOW! If you exercise more calories than you eat at the end of the day, you will lose weight. Creating a calorie deficiency at the end of a day does not mean you have to starve yourself. In fact, decreasing your calories too much can have an opposite effect on the body and cause what I refer to as CAMEL MODE. Limit carbohydrates, increase protein and good fats for optimal results. The human body is built for survival and when we receive too few calories and not enough water, we can actually shut down our metabolism to a point where you will not burn fat and store water. So, you will not lose weight, but you could gain weight by the increased water retention. This is where Formula #2 comes into play: Water + Oxygen = Fat burning Basically, the body needs water and increased oxygen to burn fat as an energy source. The water intake should be anywhere from ½ gallon for women and up to 1 gallon a day for men. See this article in the StewSmith.com Article Archive if you are concerned about drinking “too much water.” As you add more water to your system, your body will be able to use the retained water for excretion, prompting almost immediate weight loss that is healthy. This is not the same as sitting in a sauna and sweating which actually DEHYDRATES you. Adding water will REHYDRATE you and enable the body to burn more fat (as long as you increase your oxygen intake by doing some form of exercise). Walking, swimming, biking, jogging, calisthenics, and even yard work can help with working your cardiovascular system. Remember, the key to any weight control program is adding water to your diet and developing a fitness plan that will help you add oxygen and burn calories and fat. This will produce the caloric deficiency needed to lose weight...

.... what works when someone is young will work when they're older as well, just may have to modify things. .......... I see so, what works when you're young, works when you're old .......... but it doesn't, so you need to change it. Makes perfect sense. Thanks for clearing that up. What I don't understand is why you must complicate calories in - calories out, Mags, m8? V V V V V V V As Stew points out above, it isn't just "calories in - calories out". There are other things to consider ..... not as many for a 25 year old recruit, but it's not as simple as "in - out". That's just silly.

This will produce the caloric deficiency needed to lose weight... I don't think you watched the video I posted and that's fine. The only complicated part is the guy talks about the names of the process involved but it all boiled down to being it's better to eat healthy food vs processed even if they have the same macro content. We can disagree all day, so what, nothing else to say, like pissing in the wind.... Having a little junk even daily while at the maintenance or a calorie deficit is fine but living on it is another (IMO). I merely presented another side of the equation, less calories from a more natural nutritious source compared to junk. Glad Stew is an authority, so were the Mentzer bro's, casey Viator etc, you know guys who never made really old age, so let's see how far it gets him. BTW, Lalane made almost 100 and had other views like never eating junk and I don't even do that myself. Competitive bb's are genetic superiors and juicers and can eat anything and gain. Water cut for making weight in sports? Here's an egghead talking who brings up how to get more oxygen into the system for fat loss.

Yes, it is not as simple as "calories in - calories out", even for "serious bodybuilders" like Rich Piana. Thanks.
