This is one of my favorite fighters. He loved to use open hand strikes. And his first name is SUPER close to yours Baz. He also has a great sense of humor I have his video on Lethal Street Defense and I really like it. Very instructional, improvisational and can see his personality come through too. I first listened to Bas a few (?) years ago. I liked him immediately. Another voice of experience, if the stories are true, and I suspect they are.

He was one of the regulars in the comedy, Kevin Can Wait. At first I didnt know who he was and used to think, this guy looks mean, why has he got a neck and traps like that...

baz, all is well so no worries about your honest comments. I’m 65 years old and have yet to meet this mythical nut job but do believe he exists. Of course, I’d never run and leave my wife or now grandchildren in harms way. I own an AR-15, a Glock 9 mm single stack pistol, a shot gun and a machete and now live in an open carry state so I feel quite safe. Pierini you are missing a key weapon. A plasma rifle in the 50 Mega Watt range. You never know if Sarah Connor needs some assistance. Got some homework to do because I haven’t a clue about your post.

The first Terminator movie with Arnold. He walks into a gun shop and orders a bunch of guns. The guy is super happy to think he has a giant sale but then Arnold asks him for the Plasma rifle and kills him

I understand and agree with what you are saying, but - for me - I don't want to get close if I can help it because I don't what the other guy knows or has on him. If he is like this guy in the video, or has a knife, then it's time to feel the pain.
I have learned to hit open handed with fingers partially closed after I broke my 9th and 10 metacarples on a guys browbone in a bar fight in 87'. Straight finger can jam and get dislocated, but not so much as when slightly bent - they crumple.
Understand and certainly agree. The further away you are from your antagonist (like, two miles? ) the better. Techniques like head butts and knees, elbows etc can deal with close-range stuff if it comes to that, but I mentioned Wing Chun for interest and as a relatively close range MA that can train one to react very quickly to incoming. I believe it's one of the most popular combat forms in Hong Kong, as far as I know. If you're talking about your open handed technique, then a fist formed from a flat hand with the fingers bent at the first joint down from the knuckles is a good one that I found could hit quite hard (on a bag) without any finger discomfort, and which also adds about an inch and a half to your range (from an ordinary fist). I've not been in much of any fights out of the ring and only consider myself an observer rather than a fighter, but I know that such a fist as described has removed teeth when employed under the nose according to a cobber of mine, and would certainly be a confident full-power blow on the neck or throat. Unfortunately, most muggings occur with 2 or more assailants and it happens quick. In a bar or other altercation, it usually starts with verbal and gets to 'nose to nose'. The close range stuff can be tricky, but is very important.
Yes! The knuckles forward is a great tool for throat and under nose (top teeth bridge). I've never had to use, but think of this one.
I'm not a fighter, but along the journey of life tried to learn as much as I could that I could use. I'm a fan of boxing, MMA, and all wrestling. The key, to me, is the attitude/mental to use it.

When I read about or see assaults in movies, I ask myself what I'd do. Here is a scenario from about 3.5 yrs ago of an assault made by 3 guys on another man in the elevator of an apartment building. The whole video is gone now, but this pic remains. They beat him to the floor where he was prone where the guy on right stood over him and held him down at the back of the neck via stiff-arm while the other 2 beat him more and took from his pockets. All appear to be young and strong. Here is what I'd do/think: First, seeing the 3 guys, small space, unknown if they have weapons (which is why I almost never carry anything), and knowing the reputation of the building, I don't get in. Second, if I did get in, I know it could be 'go' time at any instant, but still nil info about weapons and so I wouldn't be reaching for one if I had one which could instigate the 3, and worse, they may use it on me. Third, once one starts to 'run the pockets' (street slang for running ones fingers over outside of pockets to see what may be inside) like they did to this victim, I'd start flailing (even bouncing off the walls) with clawed hands to eyes/face and kicks to anywhere with all I have not worrying about 'gassing' and try to get to the door, all the time trying to maintain upright position and hit buttons to get off ASAP. If going down, try to crumple to fetal position in corner or near wall. Fourth, Try to keep from taking damage to vital areas, head, neck, groin. What would you do?

I remember hearing many years ago about a woman who would carry a cup size bottle of acid with one of those drink tops on it for the same purpose. Heard she did use it once and the acid burns helped ID the perp.

Heard she did use it once and the acid burns helped ID the perp. Then that lady would go to jail for criminal intent. The same as if she carried a knife, mace or taser. The same can't be said for innocuous items that have claim to weapons of opportunity. So u just happen to have a cupa hot Joe or irish coffee (alcohol stings) in ur hand when u were suddenly attacked out of nowhere & splashed it in his face. Bottled water has a non-compressive force that is handy for forced explosive entries or as an expedient weapon. No jury will convict for a concealed or carried weapon with intent. Bottled water is equivalent to a weighted cosh. Hurts like hell on wrist or elbow. It can fracture the jaw, bust up a nose or dislocate if not crack a collarbone handily.

That's it. Both the hand and the attitude.

One of my favorite weapons to carry in my car is a tire punch tool like they use to plug a hole in a tire. Basically a handle with a spike that comes out of your fist. If it can punch a hole in a tire it can punch one in a person.

Then that lady would go to jail for criminal intent. The same as if she carried a knife, mace or taser. True, today, she would be in jail. I heard of this in the late 70's. She was a single or widowed elderly woman who was from another country and had been mugged before. I don't know what happened to her - if anything - but believe it was the same guy who previously mugged her. This woman lived in my aunts neighborhood. A guy, WW II vet., my family knew was 57 in 1971 and owned a jewelry store. One afternoon 2 guys came in to rob him. He took out his 357 magnum and got off 2 rounds, missed both, they took his gun and pistol whipped him and then took his money and left. They were both in their early 20's and were soon apprehended. They went to jail and he didn't have anything against him. Today, he would have major problems, especially considering the racial bias. Times have changed a lot.
