No offense intended, but I read both the old and new testaments and consider them the greatest crocks of total bullshit ever 'created' (born?) by mankind... BINGO !What an inspiration the bible is.....like Lot having sex with his two daughters, all the murder, rape, slaughter and crushing cruelty and poverty....all brought to you by a "loving God" And then there is "The book of revelation" ! That may have been written by Timothy Leary on one of his LSD trips I read the entire bible and i can honestly say that I would rather be waterboarded than read it again I must have shook my head and said "WTF" a thousand times THE classic example of just how easily people can be brainwashed and manipulated The funniest thing is the dolts quoting scripture but not even stopping to think about what they are quoting Mark Twain reportedly said "religion began when the first conman met the first fool" That sounds right ! One of the most interesting books I ever read about religion is by Christopher Hitchens...."God is not great" What an insight into the history of religion....here we are the most intelligent species of life on Earth (maybe) and we still believe in Gods, Goddesses, Devils, miracles, Angels and Demons etc....without ONE bit of evidence to support these beliefs !

Yeah, whatever floats your boat, but my conclusion is that the Judeo / Christian Bible is a very strange book that was written by some very weird people... “Happy those who seize your children and smash them against a rock.” -Psalm 137:9 “I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man. She must be quiet.” – 1 Timothy 2:12 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple.” – Luke 14:26 “If anyone does not love the Lord—a curse be on him.” – 1 Corinthians 16:22 “If I testify about myself, my testimony is not valid.” – John 5:31 “If two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from his assailant, and she reaches out and seizes him by his private parts, you shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity.” – Deuteronomy 25:11-12 “Slaves, be subject to your masters with all reverence, not only to those who are good and equitable but also to those who are perverse.” – 1 Peter 2:18 “The people of Samaria must bear their guilt, because they have rebelled against their God. They will fall by the sword; their little ones will be dashed to the ground, their pregnant women ripped open.” – Hosea 13:16 “The righteous will be glad when they are avenged, when they bathe their feet in the blood of the wicked.” – Psalm 58:10 “Then God said: ‘Take your son Isaac, your only one, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah. There you shall offer him up as a holocaust on a height that I will point out to you’.” – Genesis 22:2 “When the Lord delivers it into your hand, put to the sword all the males …. As for the women, the children, the livestock and everything else in the city, you may take these as plunder for yourselves.” – Deuteronomy 20:13-14 “You shall not let a sorceress live.” – Exodus 22:18 Did these "soundbites" come from CNN? It's their style. No, those crazy quotes were 'cherry picked' from the Judeo-Christian bible in the same fashion that christians do when they cherry pick quotes from the koran when disparaging the Muslim faith. They're ALL nuts as far as I'm concerned...

"It's how we interpret life that is most important, so our Foundation of Truth IS the most important." Jordan Grant, MD
I'm just here to tell everyone to read the Bible without prejudice or interpretations of ignorant or "religious" people. Humans always fail. Jesus never does.
IMO, we "interpret life" by our bias, formed by a lifetime combination of brainwashing, observation of appearances and personal experience, resulting in our individual perspective. We're all free to choose what we prefer to be true, whether it actually is or not. The behavior of other humans does not excuse my own, but my behavior is no excuse for anyone else either. Just because Pharisees, Sadducees, Catholic priests, or any other self-righteous religious sect, abuse children doesn't make it OK with Jesus. I'm not sure how you "interpret" the travesty in the video below, but tell your 'god' to get off his f'cking lazy ass and do something for these children...

Magz.... Bingo ! The last straw for me was 9-11.... People clinging to the window frames of the Trade Center praying the most desperate prayers of their lives People of different faiths too....where was this "God" or ANY "God" that morning ? Was he debating about how much "faith" these people had or deciding if it would be "his will" to do something ? I grew up during the old Catholic church days and even back then knew that something wasn't right And if this "God" knows all.....why didn't he correct his very flawed Human creation ? The more I read about religious history the more I saw of a side most of us don't know about ....and it ain't about love and forgiveness And this is where religion of today stems from....and is still part of

I've only read very small parts of the bible but I don't think it says that god will come along and save people from burning buildings or from natural disasters does it, m8s?

No, that would be preposterous!… ***Who would be crazy enough to think that a ‘god’ would have time enough to actually go around and save innocent people from the evil doings of his other “creations” when he’s probably busy as all hell talking to his ‘chosen’ favorites through burning bushes out in the middle of the desert ? 🤓

I've seen this debate before. This time minds are going to change. As a nonbeliever I feel more at home with the value systems of the current conservative biblical beleivers interpretations than not. I fear for the new religion of psychology, pharmaceuticals, and world despot's in control of communication, finance, and governments.

I'm only a "nonbeliever" as far as any of the organized religions that claim to know all the answers... *I lean towards agnosticism if a label has to be put on it.

As a nonbeliever I neither believe in a creator or a universal referee. So if I were slighted and took it upon myself to shoot the perceived offenders with a slingshot from a van, I'd neither be punished nor rewarded. I do sometimes subject myself to the belief I am in a form of hell without few escapes; my time reading this forum I hope will one day count as a form of penance. > }

U can attain enlightenment without the advent of religion with these 3 major attributes: spirituality, piety, community.
Spirituality is about seeking a meaningful connection with something bigger than yourself, which can result in positive emotions, such as peace, awe, contentment, gratitude, and acceptance. “Opiate for the masses” if ur not so sanguine about it.
Piety is more about a state of being than the religious connotations associated with the word. U don’t need religious dogma to attain it either. Natural Law will work in a pinch. However, I do admit much of the groundwork for secular humanism owes alot to the great Scholastic theologians such as Thomas Aquanis.
Community.....this is often left out of the equation & none really exist in North America save local churches that serve as nothing more than hubs. The Amish communities that thrive on the Ontario Peninsula are an excellent examples of what a community is supposed to be all about. To wit: “barn raising” among the amish. When is the last time ANYONE helped with ur home let alone the property taxes, eh? Amish do it all the time.
Unfortunately, u can’t have any true freedom unless u got that community spirit. Anything else is going thru the motions. I see YouTube videos where cops conduct themselves outrageously in non-felony stops. If it were a different time & place they’d be tarred & feathered or at the very least the bigshots upstairs would be sweating bullets over the crowd waiting outside with torches & pitchforks.
Alas, critical law & caselaw have been passed below which abdicates personal responsibility & forces compliance whether or not it’s in the public interest or if it violates community standards. Talk about gaslighting the public?? ============= Bill C-11 - passed recently in Canada which lowers the standard of journalism & freedom of expression under the Charter of Rights.
DESHANEY v. WINNEBAGO CTY. SOC. SERVS. DEPT.(1989) - police have no constitutional duty to protect the public.
Tennessee v. Garner (1985) - any perceived threat not an actual demonstrable threat is all that’s needed to apply deadly force. If they’re wrong? OOPS!? So velly thorry!
Frazier vs Cupp (1969) - police can lie during interrogations including consensual chats.
