What do you do with big biceps? I've never been able to answer that riddle. The same thing you do with 6 pack abs So if I ever grow a 6-pack I’ll solve the riddle. I only have a 4-pack and that doesn’t give me an answer. You been looking at 6-packs of young men on the internet with your John Gacy style cruising?

I remember everybody on worlds strongest man used to be tearing their biceps all the time and they were also always saying "I think I get enough bicep work from my event training", now they all seem to do curls and all seem to not be tearing their biceps.

One thing people don't realize, there's nothing wrong with prevention or maintenance. I get the dip and pullup/chinup thing works some peoples arms. But some people feel them way more in the chest and back muscles like myself. Which I think is better because they would have less elbow and shoulder problems from the exercises. At least with weight and bands You can control the weight more. As a person that's had a bad cause of golfer's elbow in the past I was told by a therapist that I should be doing some kind of curling, not heavy. No matter if You do dip, pullups, chins, curls or whatever, Your elbow is still bending. If someone does anything physical besides exercise Your elbow is going to bend. No expert or scientist but Your body doesn't just move in accordance of the minimulist exercise some do. By the way, even Dan John trains his arms and to me he's an expert. I wonder why he does?

Yeah I think Dan John recommended thick bar curls for injury prevention (for American football players)?

Not training my arms has been one of the biggest mistakes I've made in my training. It wasn't really about some ideology with me, it was just pure laziness. I really wish I would have focused really hard on my forearms more than the other parts though. Powerful thick forearms sets the whole package off if you got a thick neck, traps, side and rear delts.

I posted this video because a friend of mine emailed it to me and I thought it might be of interest to some people. I realize that the average age on this forum is deceased and that the general feeling here is that we should all train for the express purpose of being able to see another day rather than for any thing that might even smack of vanity.

I found, like Michael, that pullups just don't do a whole lot for my biceps, no matter what type of grip I use, so I always include some curls in my training, for the same reason I work all the other parts of the body, to get as strong as possible. One of the dumbest ideas to come along in recent years is the notion that isolation exercises are "bad" or "non-functional", when nothing could be further from the truth. For one thing, often when I'm doing work or chores, I do "curl" an object, and often do lateral raises with it as well, as it's the quickest and most practical way to move something. One of our trademark counterattacks in the togakure-ryu also is just a front lateral raise. While I would not do isolation exercises exclusively, they have a place in training along with compound, multi-joint movements. I don't think you can get the best out of a muscle without using compound and isolation exercises together. No less an authority than Bill Starr mentioned in one of his MILO articles that isolation exercises were quite beneficial when incorporated properly.

Bruce the video was of interest to me. I don't see anything wrong with wanting to take care of yourself and caring how you look. To let yourself go because your old is careless for your health. I would consider vanity as different, maybe I'm wrong. I would say that's when you're in love with yourself and it becomes an obsession. But if you spend minimal time, eat healthy, and , your biceps look decent nothing wrong with that. I agree with Fred's post. Something that I have noticed over the years is people who just do heavy compound movements tend to eventually have shoulder or elbow problems.

I'm still relatively young, plus my bloodwork today verified the same, so, I am going to blast my arms and delts with direct isolation work!

When I was young I had the world's skinniest forearms. As a result I have always put extra work into forearms. Here are two pages of DIY forearm equipment from Grunt & Shen's Workshop which gruntbrain and I have compiled over the years. Most of what you'll see is equipment which we have made and use. www.angelfire.com/ny5/shenandoah/Grunt/Grip_1.html

I feel my biceps being worked when doing weighted chin-ups. They also feel worked in a different way when doing wide-grip chin-ups. Later today I'm going to try a chin-up hang hold like this one:
I also note biceps feeling worked when doing a volume KB swing workout with a decent weight, particularly if doing hand-to-hand swings.
Also like this guy's stuff, never seen him before:
