It’s really cool to be alive at this point in history because it’s like getting a first hand look at the collapse of the Roman Empire but with Wi-Fi...

Carson is a thinker and not swayed by the current rhetorical BS. As a Greek kid in the late 60's to late 70's, I was a victim of racism. There weren't any Greeks in my small town made up of 48% Italians and 48% Irish. The jokes got more graphic and disturbing as I got to my teens. Being called a 'sheep/goat' fucker and a 'homo' by older and bigger kids in numbers in junior high was tough and led to some painful altercations. I took Judo lessons but never of thought to bring a knife or steal a gun much less use it. I guess I was not as 'evolved' as todays kids. With time, things got better because the older ones moved on and those in my grade all got to know ME the person. I was friends with anyone who wanted to be regardless of race or gender. When I was older, and larger than most, and a bit skilled in fighting, I NEVER looked for trouble or thought to use it on others for no reason or to make myself be known. I only defended myself as I was taught - which by then was only twice. Politicians are pushing the equity thing and using activist groups to do so on the young and uninformed who are quick to act out rather than think and access. Maybe the push should be towards humanitarian on all ethnic fronts. EDIT: Honest folks, I was only trying to help those sheep/goats over the fences......really I was ! (I've heard too many jokes thru those years)

I'm born and raised from the southern CT area. Have not been to Astoria since the early- mid 70's. We lived in New Haven, Bridgeport, and Hamden (mostly) CT areas and my dad would like to go to restaurants in Astoria. We'd go with cousins families in several cars.
Those days it was a rite of passage. At times things got heated and did involve physical and verbal altercations. We were defined by our differences and looks. In the end everyone just grew up and went on with their lives.

It’s really cool to be alive at this point in history because it’s like getting a first hand look at the collapse of the Roman Empire but with Wi-Fi... The collapse of the Roman Empire was largely economic. The "super-rich" continued to gather more and more for themselves, leaving less and less for the "common man", and in particular, less for the govt to be able to do, such as paying their soldiers especially in outposts and maintenance of them. Result, the outposts were becoming overwhelmed by Germanic tribes due to lack of resources, and things only got worse at home because the govt would then take to desperate measures by trying to find the money by reducing the conditions in the cities, which only bred resentment and violence. Exactly the same position America is in today. I hope it will end up being really cool for America to revive, because the more the 1% keep scooping up the moolah and not paying their share towards "their" country, the more things go down the gurgler. Paying out on the basis of race is not equality, it's racism. At any rate, that's only a diversion to keep people arguing while the Very Few take their next billion and off-shore it somewhere around the Globe, effectively removing that money from the American economy. Less money, less jobs, more poverty. And more national, and total, US debt.

Sorry Macky but I don't agree with that, the truth of the matter is there's no excuse for poverty, and that's because regardless of anyones 'race' there are PLENTY of good and reasonably high paying jobs out there in the U.S. that go unfilled because people are simply unwilling to work, and that's a fact. I've been a member of a skilled trade union since February '86, and each year I witness that there are less and less people willing to go the trade route, and it isn't just my particular trade. Every skilled trade that I know of is suffering with a shortage of manpower, and employers don't give a flying cahoot what 'color' anyone is, just as long as they can do the job. Anyone living here that says otherwise either has an agenda to fulfill or is making excuses to cover up pure laziness, that's simply all there is to it...

Certain people view a job like it's slavery because A) they report to a boss, B) don't want to be told what to, C) they have to be there at a certain hour, and D) they have to be there for a certain length of time. Also, manual labor jobs are not desired by many feeling it's a sign of low status. I've heard the phrase many times "I don't want to get my hands dirty'. They would much rather tap buttons on a keyboard for big EASY money. This combination is why poverty is out there. Easier to collect welfare, sell drugs, and steal and pay no taxes.
I have been in the insurance industry since 89' and for the last 7 or so years perform commercial and residential inspections for insurance carriers as an independent contractor. The blue collar businesses all say the same - can't get help, and when they do no one stays....can't do the work more than a few days. Some don't come back from lunch. My wife is a workers compensation claims manager and sees so many cases of claimants trying to milk the system....anything to get paid for not working.
America has become 'soft'.

I can't speak for unskilled "manual labor jobs" but anyone thinking a skilled trade job is "low status" may not realize that most union tradesman of ALL COLORS make a minimum of six figures, most of the time a lot more, plus an excellent medical plan and a great pension. There are possibly other 'perks' as well to these jobs like company vehicles to commute with, etc. What was that about "poverty" and so-called "privilege" again ? ***Can you imagine that here in NYC there are skilled trade jobs such as a union steamfitter available for anyone of ANY COLOR to learn, yet despite paying a total wage and benefit package of $118.01 an hour there's a shortage of manpower ?... YES, you read that correctly, $118.01 an hour !!!, nothing 'low status' about that, huh ? www.steamfitters.com/ctb-wage-rates.aspx

I remember when you couldn't get into the steamfitters unless you knew someone and many had family in the trade My older brother was a elevator construction mechanic with Local 1 Int'l Union of Elevator Constructors He got me in before I was a Fireman....good money there as well Back then, guys would kill to get into the skilled trades.....iron workers, steamfitters, elevator construction, tin knockers. etc etc Good money, good benefits, good pensions etc But......it was hard work and you earned your money I loved it, got strong as a bull and made some good money as well Today, they want the money, not the hard work

And the stupidity thing goes for the office staff as well as the manpower in the field. Forget helping them though, because if you don't watch the way you say things you might upset them and then they'll cry to management that you were "mean" to them... ask me how I know, LOLOLOLOL

I remember when you couldn't get into the steamfitters unless you knew someone and many had family in the trade I was just a poor 'un-privileged' white kid and didn't know anyone, so after a year of full-time trade school while additionally working after school and weekends, 7 days a week for a tree service, I secured a "temporary" job working as a helper for a large union mechanical contractor out of Queens NY, and eventually after proving my worth settling for a 'B' union book for less money doing service. Can you imagine that a hard working and dependable kid like myself couldn't get in the 'A' side, yet if I were a 'minority' I could get in with zero credentials, not even prior trade school, nothing other than the color of my non-white skin got me in ? That's why whenever I hear the bogus term "white privilege" I tell people they need to just STFU...
