I only squatted low for time when I was 17 and did so after my leg workout to stretch, but never went for extreme, only a minute or so about 2x week. Like most, I have free squatted to parallel for high reps to rehab knees and for fitness. I currently do these type of low squats slow of up to 40 reps. I got into these low ones after reading Doctor Morrison's Miracle Body Tune-Up for Rejuvenated Health by Marsh Morrison D.C. I haven't seen it on this site and will try and scan it in. I think it's a great book for most things but does have some outdated info.

I do them assisted in sets of 25 reps. Very slow tempo. Either holding on to low bar or suspension trainer.

Also like to use my elbows to pry open legs as advanced groin stretch when I am in lower position. If never done before start off and slow careful

Been away and not training for past couple days to attend FIL funeral. Will get back to some more timed tests and then eventually start doing sub-max for multiple rounds to build a base from which to grow.
I’m thinking the sub-max round times should be that which allows me to spring up to a stand without assistance with a recovery time of 50 percent to 100 percent of that time for, say, 10 rounds.
I liked the following morning feel after doing the 3:00 one. Think these are bona-fide for training your wheels

Did another timed test today after dinner. Haven’t worked out in four days and still drive dumb after a quick 45-hour trip of which I drove 24 hours. Stiff like a rodeo cowboy so I warmed up first.
My time today was 4:00 so this is a one-minute improvement. Couldn’t spring up like my grandsons.
Like the way my wheels feel from doing this quick workout.

This dude is an Asian Squat certified bad ass with a 17-minute performance plus he springs up when finished.
Meanwhile, I did 4:00 again last evening, matching my previous day’s performance. I was shooting for 5:00 but it wasn’t meant to be.

Yesterday I did my first interval training workout with the Asian Squat. It was 0;30 squat and 0:30 standing recovery EMOM for 15 rounds.
It’ll be interesting to se how running feels after doing these daily for past week. Will be taking a 5-mile run today or tomorrow.

5:00 today on fifth timed challenge. I have a suggestion about rising at the end. What has worked for me is to remain in butt-out position and gradually increasing tension over the knees (quads + ?), eventually beginning to rise, usually I have my arms stretched out in front, back straight, maybe move a tiny bit side-to-side and once I reach about halfway up, it's easy. Once I'm up straight, I give a good arched back stretch out for the sky. Never have needed to crawl out of one at the end that I can remember, but I don't know if I've ever gone 6 min either since I don't time it. I know that I've had some nice conversations with people while child squatting so however long those were.

Another thing I can mention beside the slow rise is that, due possibly to the way I'm built or past damage done, in order to remain relaxed and flat on my feet, it helps to have some way to counterweight with my hands by holding a chair leg, pole or weight. If I don't I must lean so far forward that my heels lift - no good. I can't relax into it unless I'm flat footed. If I use a chair leg, I don't use it to push me back up, although I suppose one could. I usually hook my fingers under a stone(s), DB(s) or pinch whatever is handy. It requires very little effort to give it enough counterweight. I realize that you may have no prohibiting injuries or body mechanics, so may not apply to your situation.

I suppose from writing this stuff out, I had an idea and tried it out. I backed up to a cabinet so that my butt touched when I was down, just enough to keep my balance and not topple backwards. I like it and it gives me another option. Gives me freedom to do whatever with my upper limbs while I'm still able to fully relax into it with feet flat on the floor.
