That mask looks ridiculous ! Apart from the plain fact that it was supposed to be the Arsian (or Assian squat) the reason for the mask is because the guy's been on the turps and pickled onions all weekend. The tin of baked beans didn't help, either. Placing your snorer directly over your opened ass under such dietary circumstances requires not only a mask, but supreme courage as well. It for that reason that the Kamikaze pilots squatting while waiting for their orders for their last flight in this life were termed "Sons Of The Divine Wind".

I always squat like that, even with weights. I don't squat heavy weights, usually 30kgs max. An addition I make when doing them unweighted, is to put my triceps against my knees and gentlely push my knees out, to increase the turnout. This is a yoga exercise that I forget the name of, and I've found it excellent to increase my poor turnout, which we use in ballet class.

This is an example of what I recall from my time in Korea 45 years ago:

I never do butt to the ground squats. I do a form of this in my warms ups before KB work: But when it comes to any squats, reverse lunges, or bulgarian split squats I go where it feels comfortable. My knees feel so much more better like this. I use to do squats like that and the bag lady would recommend hindu squats like this. Whether this is true or not, what I researched is going ass to grass on squats stretches the ligaments in the knees. That doesn't sound good long term. I don't understand the important of doing it but if it works for You I'm glad for You.

It’s all over SW Asia and ME. It’s one of the reasons back pain is less prevalent over there. It takes load off the lower lumbar while giving it a nice stretch. Meanwhile sitting in chairs isn’t as much a thing.

Decided to take another Asian Squat timed today after yesterday’s introductory 2:00 effort. Today I did 3:00 and it felt better than yesterday’s effort. I could have gone a little longer but I want some room for further improvement. My squat depth was very good.
So, the big question is whether I was able to spring up like a frog the way my grandsons do.
Answer: No, I needed to go to my knees coming out of the squat and then have a hands-assisted stand up.
If I can remember, I’ll try again tomorrow.

Here’s my second effort from today:
Considering the cumulative aging effect from running, karate, Oly lifting and a semester of StrongLifts 5x5, I’m pleased that I’m able to do this.
So, the big question is will I ever be able to spring up like my grandsons? Time will tell.
