Even though I have decent squat depth for an older turd, I’m less sure of my ability to stay in the bottom position for time. I think I’m going to add Asian squats timed to my workouts for a new challenge.
Anyone here regularly doing them?

Yes, but I don't know why he applied the term "Asian" to them. It's a ubiquitous forever universal human posture. Nothing "Asian" to it. If I was going to name it, I'd call it "The Child Squat" cuz they do it more than any group I've seen, regardless of ethnicity. And, WTF is that thing on his face out there in the middle of a field, squatting in the breeze? I notice he did a bit of twisting at the end. I do that too, not just in full squat but other levels and ways of twisting including while hanging like Dr Schwartz. All sub-parts of what I call "stretching".

Pierini, I started doing those about 3 weeks ago, I have arthritis in both my knees, so I’m going slowly with them, I do them 3 times a day, and I have improved my depth a bit which is good and they don’t bother my knees, so far, so I’m going to keep doing them, I eventually would love to get up to 5 minutes doing this, great job on your squat depth also, I enjoy your workout videos too.

I do these daily. Ass to ground. A minute here, a minute there. I’ve held it for 10 minutes, but rarely do more than 3-5. The hard part is standing back up after a long hold. Most of the time I do them I don’t time them. But I know from how I’m feeling it’s usually in the 1-2 minute range. Much better to develop the habit of randomly doing them throughout the day, than to do one long timed squat.

Because it’s a more prevalent position used by people referred to as “Asian”. When I was in Korea (1974-1975), I saw it all the time. Men and women in that position smoking a cigarette or playing a board game and/or socializing. Just got home after driving for almost 2 hours and tested myself. Did 2 minutes and called it quits. As MBS said. hard part is standing up. I had to put my hands on my knees for an assist. My grandsons spring up like a frog after being in that position for a very long time. Think I should be doing these with some frequency.

No need to go right out for max time or any of that since there are no prizes and might cause injury if not approached gently at first. You can gradually lengthen the down time over a month or two, if you're someone who times such things. I sit on my calves at almost every opportunity. To scan bottom shelves at the store (includes some leaning, side-to-side). To find a CD or DVD from the bin or a bottle from the lower cupboard, at home. Etc. And also just to do it, adding gentle side-to-side movement &/or twisting sometimes, as I mentioned. You'll note that the vids show reps being performed with some very mechanical movements. I'm not that rigid, except to keep my back generally straight as usual w/ squat. But, I don't try for any rep count or rep speed. I do the Amosov type thing (or any BW or goblet squat) with pauses, slow movement, faster movement and holds mixed into it wherever it feels good. If you want a bit more of a challenge (I don't do this):

Made me chuckle. I just came from the kitchen where I was preparing a drink and my straw dropped on the floor, so guess what I did to pick it up? I didn't rush it. It's a habit, but I thought of this thread when I did it. Ha!

To increase my pathetic squat depth, I use an isometric front squat to get lower . In addition, I use an isometric deadlift to get a decent range of motion with toe touches .
