What is it with these young and insecure forum 'phags' ?... Remember Justin (Justine ?), he was another one that used to vie for my personal attention in any way possible, I just don't get it....?
Hmmmmm....maybe, just maybe, because I'm actually old enough to be whifFag's father, she's actually seeking out a 'daddy' figure in her life because her own father possibly ignored her ?... I...just...don't...know...

It's simply that you are fun to wind up because you react like a stroppy little girl.

I think it depends on what knowledge the experts are holding them out as but do agree that “looks” and skills exhibition do matter.
A Two Ton Tony can be a strength coach but maybe not a coach on how to use food to achieve a lean physique. Maybe Drew doesn’t hold himself out as a nutrition coach so his paunch doesn’t “earn” him a critic’s award as a hypocrite.
Think about it. Most people on fitness forums don’t post photos of themselves yet freely dispense their expert opinions about everything under the sun related to fitness. Every one who reads everything posted here by us for the most part should take a caveat lector approach in reading the post.
While I have generously posted photos of me, none of you really know it’s me. I might actually look like that guy standing next to two cops in front of a donut store. You really don’t know.

Agreed, and I would add that I've personally found that this 'field' is similar to most other fields, where there are 'dreamers' and then there are 'doers'...
The 'dreamers' are the ones who choose to wrap themselves all up in 'theory'; they're the types who'd eschew the reality of simple hard work, and would much rather sit and watch some 'expert' drone on and on in a seminar or video... sigh
...and then worse yet, when the dreamer spends more time listening to the seminar and video star 'experts' than actually working out, and thus gets little in the way of actual results for themselves, it's par for their course to blame it all on "genetics"...

As to genetics it would be interesting if we could do a survey of people with above normal muscularity and take that and compare it against an objective genetic measurement (not sure any currently exist, something like the myostatin gene or similar) of their ability to gain produce above normal muscle.
My hypothesis would be that many of the large muscular individuals would play down any sort of genetic blessing and talk up how hard they worked. No one likes to think they we're given anything, especially muscle heads. Also maybe they did work harder because and ONLY because their genetics allowed them to.
We'll probably never know the answers to those in our lifetimes, but it would be interesting.

Eastern Nigeria and Cameroon are filled with huge guys that credit stew and cassava as their regular meals.
The plague of strength website has a ‘stew-roids’ Series of articles that claims all the big guys of history and the weightlifter and wrestling medal winning countries eat stew.

Yes, genetics plays a part in how muscularly large and strong you'll eventually end up, but I'm not sure how you'd factor in the absolute fact that most people don't have the furthest notion from the foggiest clue on how to train properly when it actually comes to proper NATURAL bodybuilding training. So many people short change themselves, great genetics or not, because they go into the gym and think they have it all figured out by themselves because they've read the latest BS or watched the video's that make the rounds out there. I would equate this to someone who wants to learn a Martial Art, but all they did was read a book and watch video's, and then they head to the Dojo and practice by themselves or their equally clueless 'bro'... it doesn't work for the most part

If Mario trained you, and you put in an honest effort, no matter what kind of 'genetics' you had, you were going to progress, there were no more EXCUSES.... www.mariostrong.com/

Genetics. I was a very skinny kid and teenager. I had forearms that looked like loose threads. People always told me I took after my mother who was very slight.
Bull shit.

Those folks were wrong in their prediction. But you didn't overcome your genetics, you fulfilled them. That's all any of us ever do if we train in an optimal manner for ourselves. You found a good path. As Magnus says many flounder and don't live up to even the average or below average genetics they have.

Did you know Joe Carrero? If so, did Joe have a brother named Johnny? I know a Johnny Carrero who lives in my part of the woods but is from Staten Island. He’d be about your age and trained at Mario Strong’s gym.

Did you know Joe Carrero? If so, did Joe have a brother named Johnny? I know a Johnny Carrero who lives in my part of the woods but is from Staten Island. He’d be about your age and trained at Mario Strong’s gym. I kind of remember seeing Joe around the gym but didn't really know him. ...don't remember his brother by name but maybe by face (?).
Mario Strong's 'Bodybuilding USA' was the second 'real' gym I ever trained in, starting out in my basement, then a friends garage, then the first real gym, a P.A.L gym for cops, fireman, and local citizens in Tottenville Staten Island. After getting booted from the P.A.L gym for having a fistfight with a bigmouth fireman I joined Mario's. I was already in my later teens by that time. I used to train there after working hard in construction all day; I'd work out in my work boots, tank top and 'chino' pants, I always thought of working out as WORK, and although I trained like a bodybuilder with actual competing bodybuilders I had no interest in actually stepping up onto a stage myself.
If you see either one of the Carrero's tell them that you know of someone who grew up with Vinny Conzo, they'll definitely know who he is (was)...
