I love my dogs too. Maybe we should start a "Pets" thread? I'm partial to Sloths. My first "rescue" cat died almost a year ago. My wife had picked out two kittens from a litter - Missy Muffin and Walliford "Wally" J. Wallower. A couple of weeks later I took the two kitties back to the vet for some treatments and saw that there was one little kitten left from the litter alone in his cage. That cat nobody wanted. So I took Ned Kneadermeyer home with me. He suffered a kidney failure and as he lay dying on the vet table, we were holding his little paws and stroking him. He suddenly raised up and looked up at both of us with glassy eyes, and then that was it. So, I now have a real rescue cat. We had dropped our remaining two cats off at the vet for a couple weeks boarding and saw that there was a tiny little kitten in a big cage by the door. When we came back, he was still there. Later that day I went back and took Coco Bean. I later found that he had been found under a dumpster at night in a pouring rain. If the girl who found him hadn't, he would not have survived the night. I also later found out that the girl who had rescued Coco Bean couldn't keep him in her apartment, and that she had called the vet on occasion to find out if her rescue kitty had found a good home. The vet was happy to tell her that he had.

You all are saints, no joke.
My puppy got run over when he ran across the road - we lived on a gravel road in the country. He saw me turning on the windmill in the pasture and ran across the lawn and directly into the path of a car - the driver did everything he could to miss the dog, including driving in the ditch.
So since then I have not had a pet, and I never had a particular liking for cats until my friend adopted Marv, and I saw the bond that developed over the years, and I have to admit I might have shed a tear or two when I found out about Marv's passing.
Soooooo...maybe it's time to see what's out there looking for a home???

Here's a story for the books...
Years ago I visited friends of a friend in Monterey, Calif. They lived in a house and had a big, beautiful white German Shepherd named "Rusha". They had a pine cone tree in the yard, and Rusha's favorite thing in the world was pine cones. People who came to visit knew to make an offering of a pine cone to Rusha. They said they'd leave the house and find a pine cone or two stuffed in their purses.
They also had a cat, and one day their cat got run over, but she was directly under the car, so she didn't get crushed, but tossed around and suffered a broken leg. They had the leg taken care of and a cast put on. The next morning they left the cat, immobile, on the sofa. When they got home from work that day, they found pine cones stacked all around the cat.

I have a dog since 9 years ago, a Schnauzer mini, black and silver, name is Thor. Playful, affectionate, stubborn. I love him, he is my mate and has been with me more than almost anyone. He came to me straight from his mom, so no horror story/abandonment. While he is active and looks very young (usually mistaken for a 1-2 year old dog), he has a mild heart condition which needs a daily pill. He takes it and his heart is perfect. My girlfriend also has a dog, 1 year old, border collie/water dog, a girl. Non-stop energy, worships Thor, very affectionate. She is my little girl (so is my girl, ) and she loves me (so does my girl, haha). When Thor parts, a part of me will go with him and a part of him will always stay with me. It is sad that they don't live more and accompany us until our own demise, but that is how things work. I hope to remember him vividly when I am old.

It is becoming increasingly evident that the Canegurus are a whole lotta pussies...………………………..
At the same time (80s/90s) I had seven cats, wifey had two large dogs, a Doberman/ridgeback and an Alsatian/rotty. We had two trolleys in the supermarket, one for the animals and the other for us and our daughter.

Is anyone familiar with THIS lady, Mieshelle Nagelschneider? I did a search for "cat whisperer" to find her. Might buy her book, although it looks like she might be more focused on indoor kitties. My outdoor-only cats are quite self sufficient little survivors and I feel honored that they have chosen to like me, let me feed them, brush them, give them treats and catnip, live in the insulated houses during winter weather that I've made for them and take them to the vet when they need help, which is very rare. I've had more experience with dogs than cats, but the cats have been catching up over the past couple decades. I learned a lot about dogs back in the day, when Cesar Milan, Dog Whisperer (in posted video), was on TV and his info was free. He definitely knows his stuff. Problem pets are extremely rare. Problem pet owners are common.

Real men are affectionate to animals. There is nothing macho in harming creatures or even disregarding their suffering. Compassion is the ultimate value. It should encompass our society, others' societies, other animal species, forests, oceans and the planet as a whole. Physical fitness which brings us all to this forum is actually ourselves being compassionate to our own bodies. longevity and better quality of life especially in older age is a noble pursuit as it allows us to be more actively compassionate for a longer time.

BTW, a precious little eight year old girl from two doors up, and who often comes to visit while I'm sitting on my front porch - she just comes up onto the porch, plops herself down on a rocking chair and just starts chatting away - gave my wife a card to give to me. It has an absolutely precious hand written note, replete with little hand drawn hearts all over it. Something I'll always treasure, just like all the little momentos I've saved from my own children. She's like having my little daughter back again. All I have now are old babies. Speaking of, there is another little girl who just turned 11 who lives next door to us. Yesterday I was determined to get my lawn taken care of, and with the meds I'm on, I feel like I'm moving slowly through an alternative reality. So, I was getting the lawn mowed little by little, taking frequent breaks. As I was sitting on my porch for my last break, she came over and said that she heard me mowing, that she was bored, and asked if I'd like her to help me. So, I said yes, that would be much appreciated, and she finished mowing the lawn whilst I weed whacked. Afterwards we sat back on my lawn furniture and had some root beer and chatted for a bit. This little girl is absolutely beautiful. She has killer eyes. Her mother is half black, and, she herself is blonde with, I dunno, golden/blue/hazel eyes, and she has just enough of her mother's facial features to make her exotic. She is fair, but with a pool in their back yard, she tans brown as a little walnut. This little girl is going to be a real heart breaker in a couple of years.

A little black tomcat is my master. I feed him, play with him when he wants to, pet him when he's in the mood, clean up his toilet twice a day. He likes me okay, but his favorite is Vivien, who is a really sweet lady.

You can make them inexpensively from totes. Cost about $25 each for materials. This includes the tote, a 4' x 4' piece of 1/2" foil face foam insulation and cheap indoor/outdoor or floor matt material. I get straw for free from my neighbor. I fill it about half way and the cats make it into a nest. Houses one cat.
