Fraidy cats like me will stick with "soft workout implements" like sandbags that have multiple handles ; a drop in a foot won't result in a fracture. As I heard one guy say something like this: Due to the instability, varying possibilities for grip, stone gripping surface and just general awkwardness of the weight, the threat of having a stone come down on your head or feet forces concentration on everything that you're doing, so it is actually helpful and keeps safety high. I play with my stones regularly, both outside and in. I only had one come down unexpectedly once when I was outside and that was when I first started using stones. I was lifting with one arm/hand and the stone fell off at near full extension overhead. Since I was paying attention, as soon as I could feel it was going, it was with calm ease that my other hand came up immediately and deflected the stone to fall a few feet from me. It also removed the fear of the stone falling onto me from overhead. That has never happened since, maybe partly due to becoming familiar with the stones I use regularly. I do like some amount of unsteadiness or shaking when I lift them and the extra stabilizing that requires from my muscles.

Observations from a KB newbie:
This is my third day of usage. 200+ swings a day.
DOMS mostly in the hamstrings, some in glutes. Back feels very good.
I enjoy the “power” aspect of swings.
I am semi retired, and my time is my own. So I’m doing my swings throughout the day. Sets of 20. The times daily will be random, depending on what else I’ve got going on. For example, got in 4 x 20 this morning, then rock scrambling for almost four hours, then more swings when I got home.
The plan is to do 200+ swings a day. Aiming for Pavel quality form in each rep. From what I’ve read, some say form begins to break in the 10-15 rep range, so 20 might be pushing it, but so far that feels right.
I’m planning on focusing exclusively on swings for awhile, with maybe some explosive dips thrown in.
My 🎩 is off to the number of swings that heavy hitters like pierini and Michael put up in a short span of time.
Feedback is welcome.

MBS, you’re only limited by your imagination of KB training workouts in your KB training journey. If you come up short, there’s no shortage of ideas on YouTube.
Always scale those workout ideas to your current abilities. If you’re inclined, make those abilities work hard and you will be rewarded. Be safe.

Sounds like You have a good plan MBS. Just listen to Your body and do You. Pavel I believe in his book"Simple & Sinister" mentioned after 10 reps form can break down. His style in Hard style which is a hard hip snap. I would just say as long as You squeeze the gluteus to protect the back You should be ok. Dan John has had people doing swing work outs that have over 20 reps for years without problems. With my back history I did an Every Minute On The Minute session for 16 minutes adding 1 rep each set. I started at 10 and ended at 26 reps. Start slow, watch your form, and have fun with it.

Thanks guys. I’ve been at this long enough to know better to compare myself to others accomplishments, especially when they have years of experience with this tool.
Today I did 10 sets of 20, E5MOM. This was a good way to utilize time as I watched the market on CNBC.
Other things to do today.

Visual benefits/symptoms of doing too much KB swing work. Some ladies may find you an irresistible chick magnet. Gruntbrain, get to work and do your swings!

I like Pat Flynn and the KB complex workouts and videos he has made.
We follow each other on Twitter.
Heads-up to pagans, he’s a Catholic man on fire with his faith.
He has lots of podcasts with Dan John.
I think MBS needs to get some KB swings under his belt before considering KB complex work. Time will tell.

Yeah, Keep It Simple. Plus, MBS is a minimalist which I'm not. If he wanted to go beyond swings, which I think he doesn't, Dan John and Pavel could give him ideas. If You're a minimalist all You need is a Push and a Pull. Everyone has a different situation with time and everyday life. , in these changing times, if he wants to build "Nerve Force" only he knows if he wants to go further into the world of KBs. All joking aside, I like KBs and have done many different styles of training with them. But if someone was just to do just swings with them they would get many benefits. Pavel's book"Simple & Sinister" is 100 swings and 5 getups on each side for 5-6 days a week. I did it before and was in the best shape endurance wise, but I got bored with it. But I would say the rock scrambling thing the MBS does is pretty hard and it's fun to him. Never take away what's fun and actually gives You a side benefit of exercise.

For now, I just want to build a good base of strength from two handed swings, and maybe later dabble with the KB complex movements.

I have always said you treat people the way you would like to be treated and you get more with honey than you do vinegar, being a jerk, it takes more wasted energy being jerk than being nice.

Be leery of those that like to say things like “ have a blessed day”. 🤣. They tend to be rigid and the most hypocritical of all.
Ive found that the Golden Rule works best. Treat others with respect, the way you’d like to be treated. In turn, if they show themselves to be frauds, eliminate them from your life if possible. At least minimize your engagement with them.
