I have been using a 3 ft piece of spear gun Tubing that is 5/8" in outer dimensions and 1/8" in inner dimensions as recommended by Fred Crivello. No handles.
I find this to be a great upper body strength tool. I have been using the usual chest expander exercises + isometric holds.
The piece of tubing has pretty healthy resistance and I have been using it both as a I bounce on a fitness trampoline and running though different exercises standing, too. Good for the grip, too.
Has anyone else used this sort of approach?

I don't have a piece of spear gun tubing with a 1/4" wall thickness, but I'd guess using it would be an overcoming isometric for me.

Do you have speargun tubing or not, m8? I'm talking about 5/8" OD x 1/8" ID speargun tubing, which, by my calculation, would have a 1/4" wall thickness. I don't have any, but I assume it would provide so much resistance that I would not be able to stretch it much, if at all. Maybe it's a lot more stretchy than I imagine. I really have no idea what I'm talking about since I don't have any tubing like that. I'm just guessing because I felt like posting something, m8

Yes I use a lot of spear gun tubing and I also got idea from Fred Crivello. I like to workout with it at night while in chair sometimes. The Strand Pulling forum has great information. Bruv made lots of excellent contributions there as well as our old friend Macky. It is really good for developing hand and forearm strength.

I have a few pieces of spear gun tubing that I use along with other training equipment. I also got the idea from Fred Crivello. I have a piece of the 5/8" OD x 1/8" ID that is 9 feet long. And yes, mr potatohead, that size is a very heavy piece of tubing, and I will use the 1/2" OD x 1/8" ID piece overall much more than the 5/8" OD one. The 5/8" size is good for some things for me though, such as doing rowing movements with various hand grips/spacing, etc. attached to both sides of a door knob so that you have two long sections of the tubing to grab on to. I also have a 3/8" OD x 1/8" ID piece that is 10 feet long. I found the 10 feet lengths to be the best for me, because you can always double up the tubing if you need to for more resistance, or just grab a short section if that is what you want to work with.

Welcome Determinator. I also use the ten foot length for the reasons you mentioned. I like to wrap it around my back and do standing pushups or bench pressing movement. I have three 10 foot lengths so I can increase resistance and do deadlifts too.
On one of the lengths I tied a knot in one end so it is a long loop. I then double it over twice to do and excellent version of the Archers pull

Thanks for the welcome, guys! I've actually been a long-time lurker, and now joined up when I saw this post on using speargun tubing. I also have the Sampson handles that I use with the short bands from Rogue Fitness, as well as Bruce's handles and anchor and some of his latex loops. Mostly KB's and free weights see action, but the different handles and bands get their fair share of use as well The "true archer pull" or TAP, is a great exercise. There's a lot of room for inventing your own exercises with the bands and speargun tubing, and you can adjust the length of the speargun pieces with your hands or distance to make the resistance lighter when you max out at a shorter length so as to make one long set. There is no negative resistance or very little compared to the gravity present with free weights, etc., but otherwise at the contracted position it works great. It is only one tool in the tool box, and an excellent one, I think. Thanks for the links, BigBruv!

I've got a bunch of different bands and handles but I really like the resistance that the 5/8" tubing has plus just gripping it in the hands.
I may get a 10' length, too, just to see how it might work with band deadlifts, as the 3 ft length has pretty much only been useful for upper body work.

Pardon me, but how is spear gun tubing different from surgical rubber tubing?

Pardon me, but how is spear gun tubing different from surgical rubber tubing? I think it is pretty much the same thing. Compared to the surgical tubing I bought from Shen, the spear gun Tubing recommended by Fred Crivello is thicker and has a much smaller hole down the center and provides significantly more resistance. This is what I bought. 5/8 in (16mm) Speargun Band/Sling Latex Primeline Rubber Tubing (Select Length and Color) a.co/d/h9tcncD

Pardon me, but how is spear gun tubing different from surgical rubber tubing? I think it's the same material, latex rubber, but I see that there is now types of speargun tubing available with an outer layer of black dyed latex that provides UV protection. Also now available is speargun tubing with a 1/16" ID (the size of the hole), which was not available when i got mine about 10 years ago. When used for surgical purposes, the latex tubing is likely a dimension that allows it to be easily stretched, as opposed to a size and strength that will provide a good amount of resistance to propel the spear of the speargun. I got some of the about info from this site: spearfishing.store/speardiver-small-hole-speargun-rubber-tubing. They have available sizes listed there, but I would like to see smaller sizes available. I think it's better to buy a smaller OD dimension of along piece of tubing if uncertain of what would be good for you, since it can be doubled up, or tripled. The cost seems somewhat pricey, but you won't be breaking the tubing even if there is some slight wear on the middle part from hooking it on a door, etc. for rowing, etc. At least mine haven't broken after over 10 years plus of use. The smaller the ID (hole), and thicker wall makes it tougher than pieces having thinner walls. That's my idea on that, anyway.
