I have several spinlock dumbbell handles. My favourites are some old York handles because they are 28 mm in diameter which means they are slightly thicker than the more common 25 mm (1") handles. I wondered if any of my m8s here know how I can make the 25 mm handles slightly thicker with something simple and cheap that isn't going to need constant maintenance? Sponges or pool noodle. I saw a bodybuilder do that to get a thicker grip. He wrapped it on with 7.62 cm surgical tape. I just want something similar to the York size handles, Moxo m8

Does the hand towel idea help?

Does the hand towel idea help? I like the pool noodle and towel ideas. Gym fees and specialized equipment can add up quickly.

Does the hand towel idea help? No, because as I said to Moxo I just want something similar to the York size handles, Michael m8.

Find some rubber tubing, with the proper inside diameter to fit around the handles that also has a wall thickness of 2.5mm. Slit it lengthwise to fit around the 20mm handles and you should be good. The other option is shrink-wrap tubing and a hair dryer but that would be more permanent.

Yeah, my local hardware store has vinyl tubing that would work but for the cost of the tubing I can probably get some old York handles from a place nearby that sells old weights etc (Usually repainted). I might see if I can do a deal with them with a few plates that I don't need, m8s.

28mm - 25mm = 3mm
So, you want to add 1.5mm to the outside circumference of the handles? 1.5mm m8? Is that really worth the bother?
Anyway, maybe some of Bruce's tennis racket tape would be enough - might even be too thick?
I have used stretch wrap ("Saran wrap") to enclose something in several layers and then carefully applied heat (hairdryer or whatever) to shrink it down tight. It works, but it's a bit fiddley and may not be durable enough in this app.
OK, just had one more thought ...... If you don't care, you could grind down the backing flange on the spin-on handles on at least one end and then be able to slip PVC or vinyl pipe over the handle? I wanted to add girth to my spin-ons too, but due to the flanges, decided to just do it to my old Sears Ted Williams straight bar DB handles that have no flange and use thread-bolt-tight collars.

You could always wear a pair of gloves with a decent rubber or leather palm for grip.

Bruv, did not read all the responses but this might give you some ideas. You probably have thought about them in some variation or another I have used pool noodles and they work well Ross's rope method looks good too rosstraining.com/blog/2008/09/thick-handle-dumbbells/

Cost aside, braided vinyl hose( comes in different diameters up to 2.5" with thick walls) . I favor them as handles and short bars since they have some slight give .
