Today's workout was 400+ Reps of sledgehammer striking with the 25 lb Hammer. An additional 70 went into for filming. These were in two takes and for the second take I thought I could do more within a minute or so. Got 40 in 53 Seconds. www.instagram.com/tv/Cjd5m1_j0QR/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

Ben just some insights on the sledgehammer video. As someone that uses a 16lb sledge at work impressive work with the 25lb Hammer. This is not to criticize or discredit You because that is a great endurance work. I notice at my work if any one swings the sledge they do it like You where they are bent over. Where as I'm more straight up using a hip hinge like in KB Swings. I think it's because of my back history but if I was to swing a sledge like that I would be in trouble. I just envy that people can do it that way. Keep up the good workouts!

I have swung a sledge on a job before with my dad knocking out a wall but no where near the way I did it in this video. If I were on a job, I would swing it the best way possible to prevent injuries and to keep my back strong as possible. I like this variation because of the speed and quickness of getting out of breath for anaerobic work that's it and it keeps from areas of my back stiffening up otherwise I would just swing it normally which I do often. When I go out chopping wood camping, I don't do that at all, just use enough velocity to swing using a normal style swing.

Ben, when I did landscape work in the winter it was snow shoveling, 30 properties just me and Bill, he used a small push blower on the driveways and I did all the walkways and deck with a shovel. Average was 9 inches 15 times a season. Working for a builder also involved snow shoveling on the detached condo sites, including the houses that were only framed and full of snow. My house had 250 feet of sidewalk that I kept clear and a 6 car lane way, all shovel work. Sold the house to downsize and now live in an apartment, I don't shovel anymore sob!
Where I live now . . .

Awesome. Yeah here in Idaho it's supposed to snow for the next 2-3 weeks so plenty of shoveling. Doesn't get higher than 6 inches or so but I do it multiple times a day. Longest day of shoveling was starting at 230 in the morning and finished up around 5 in the afternoon off and on for up to an hour or more at a time. Did about 6 rounds of it just using a shovel. Even helped out a neighbor's kid get his car into the driveway when it was stuck only a few feet away.

We went round later after the snow plough did the plough ins (blocking lane ways). With heavy snow I used a knee-up on the handle to assist the lift. My home lane way the snow had to be tossed over a 4 foot fence.
Two little boys came to my door one time and asked if they could shovel the lane way. The lads were so small and felt real sorry as they were obviously poor. I gave them the job but went out with them, mainly so they didn't go near the busy road. I gave them $5 each, made sure they didn't have to work hard, I was chuffed to have them keen little helpers.

Ben how high were the steps? I always found that 8 to 11 inches was the perfect height for cardio for myself. Anything higher for me was more strength where I would add weight and do less. How did You incorporate a deck of cards with these? I think I have an idea but I'm interested in how You did it. Thanks.

Ben how high were the steps? I always found that 8 to 11 inches was the perfect height for cardio for myself. Anything higher for me was more strength where I would add weight and do less. How did You incorporate a deck of cards with these? I think I have an idea but I'm interested in how You did it. Thanks. My step stool is 12 1/2 inches in height which works best best for me. I've done a 14 inch step but that does put more stress on the hips even though I've done high reps. The deck of cards is pretty simple, whatever comes up you do that number per leg which at times can be hard other times pretty easy. 2-10 (per leg) Face Cards are 10 per leg Aces are 16 per leg Jokers are 50 per leg A whole deck would come out to 1000 total reps. For this particular workout, I just did what I felt I can do without getting so damn bored and tally the cards at the end, if it's at a high enough number where I can get in a few more say like in the 80s or 90s, I would do the number of reps to get to that 00 like 500 or 600 or whatever. It was just an inspired idea of the Karl Gotch Bible along with inspiration from Billy Robinson who used the cards to have students do 500 Hindu Squats. I just took that idea and put it towards the step ups. I might do 1000 again one of these days, I've done it before, it's just really more of a mental thing.

I sometimes take the stairs to the 15th floor (13 flights) after my leg workout, at the moment one at a time but use to always do 2 for more cardio, tried 3 but had to take a breather 1/2 way.
