I totally screwed up trying to communicate my thought properly here, so I apologize to TR if it was offensive. I don't believe, nor was I intending to imply that he is intentionally trying to fool anyone. I've learned things from TR in the past and have said so and I think he presents what he believes to be true. Those who are trying to fool us are the "liars that figure", as in "Figures don't lie, but liars figure", referring to most monetized or self-interest motivated food "studies". It would have been more clear if I had replaced all of "You ..." in the Lincoln quote with "CNN ..." or "Food studies ...".

HERE is a post with links to other posts about swinging arms. My favorite twisting exercises are chimp walk, suitcase carrying chimp walk and what I call "skaters" with both arms swinging together instead of like the "Willow twisting" in which the arms are swinging opposite of each other when one hand swings to front, the other swings to back.

I've had some interactions with Macky here and on another forum. He did mention the swinging arm exercise to me when we were talking about Mike Joplin and his cancer. I would like to add this to what I do but don't want to give up stuff I like exercise wise. Macky wrote a lot of stuff that I really don't have time to read. So maybe Mr.P or Fred could answer a couple of questions for me. With something like this I don't think I would be interested in counting reps. Is there a certain amount of time that is recommended? Is this something that should be done everyday? If I don't do my regular exercise in the morning I will probably miss it I may not feel like doing it. Is the swinging arms something that could be done after dinner? Will it cause problems with sleeping? This question has nothing to do with swinging arms. It's about the video Denis posted. , why do old men have to wear speedos when they are showing an exercise? JP sighting.

The great thing is that I can do it anywhere, any time as long as I have the free space around me. One of my favorite songs to play during this type of exercise is Neil Young "Comes A Time". Put it on repeat and go as long as it feels good, greased and loose. Q. Is this something that should be done everyday? A. I avoid "shoulds" in practising things I enjoy, but everyday keeps me looser than a couple times per week. I don't really track it ... wait a minute, yes, I do it every day because, no matter what, I need to get the mail 6 days per and I chimp walk the whole way (~football field length+). Q. Yeah, if you don't feel like it don't bother. I'm sure you get plenty of regular exercise. This is more of an energy gathering and thought provoking sort of experience. After dinner would depend on how you stuffed yourself. If you could go out for a walk after dinner and feel comfortable, no reason you couldn't swing arms. Q. Will it cause problems with sleeping? A. Good question. I've not paid much attention to that, but I'd say 30 min? before bed wouldn't bother me. Just enough to allow absorption of whatever just happened in my body. I probably would have trouble falling asleep if bed was immediately afterward. Depending on how you approach it, it can be a way to just forget about time, counting and measurement in terms of numbers.

Tell you what, I don't really know the technical stuff like macky did. I approach it like a kid. if you watch kids in an event, birthday party, wedding, etc, they will twirl around, jump up and down, swing their arms around, squatty walk, throw their arms up, dance, etc. I carry a rope with me that I can tie to any size loop and I like it to hold when I swing both arms together because the arm furthest back in the swing can pull on the other arm in an upright, semi-squatted "skater" swing. I don't know if that's an exercise with a name, but that's what I do.

I've been experimenting with this one and so far I like it. One alternate i'm experimenting with is using very light weights, but I might like it better with no weights, not sure yet. It reminds me a little of a book I was skimming in the library many years ago, a book about outdoor survival techniques actually. The author said his favorite exercise was extending his arms to the sides and moving his hands in little circles. At the time I thought that was silly because it was so easy, but it can well be one of the motions with this. I also tried it along with opera - Die Meistersinger - like a conductor. One place said that it is the flowing with the music that contributes to the health benefits. By the way, if orchestral directors live the longest I think opera singers may live the shortest.
I did it shortly before going to sleep last night, no problem.
