Did a 60 minutes step up workout to 12-inch step once. It was a good cardiovascular workout but time-consuming. Prefer a brisk outdoor walk with some grade. Also time-consuming.

Moxohol, You do step-ups for 60 minutes? That's definitely something one needs to work up to. I would say more so leg and calf endurance wise depending on the intensity. Your legs/calves will be pretty sore the next day. I did do a lot of step ups in the past. If You watch the video, Pavel talks about cardio and muscular endurance. He talks about not redlining for cardio because it really is not good to do.

I've never done step-ups, but I've stepped up steps. An hour of step-ups doesn't interest me. Sounds quite boring. I'd rather walk my circle.

He talks about not redlining for cardio because it really is not good to do. 5 days a week. 60 minutes time-total. 5 minute rounds, 1 minute rest. 20 minute blocks. 15 minute rest periods in between blocks. I actually use the staircase which is low level gradient. I have a kick ass playlist to psyche me up & an ever faithful stray cat to keep me company. It's the only low impact cardio I can do without hurting. I injured my shoulders, my back, my ribs & got a nagging head injury too. All because I tussled with that WWF gorilla. So now I can't jump, run, swim, skip or do any longstrength exercises but I can do step ups. The idea is to activate my stem cells & heal faster. I do feel the difference. Ask Pierini. I think he'll back me up on this method. Yes, I fast daily too. OMAD style

You sure have a good sense of humor, . Doing step ups 5 days a week for 60 minutes is really good. I'm kind of like Mr. P although I have done them in the past. The longest I ever felt like doing them was 20 minutes. I wrote on another forum one time about the different ways you could do/ use in a training session. I probably went to fast which would be to fast a pace for 60 minutes. I'm not putting down what you do but I don't have 60 minutes straight to exercise. I know it's good cardio but I would get bored so kudos to you. I invested in a weighted vest and plan on doing some rucking. If I would have read Billfish's post on the trucking thread I would have went the way he did.

Shoulder separations, spinal hernias & other fun accumulated injuries all for the love of working 20+ years in the great outdoors & sending the kids off to college. You'd have to scrunch my face in the dirt & shove twigs down my pants to get me to feel a twinge of the daily arboreal thrills u must be having whenever u operate that tree shedder? I guess we lesser mortals will simply have to settle for boring old time tested routines like step ups & suck it up! BTW, it IS boring.

As far as I'm concern, I'm no better than anyone else. My needs are just different because of my jobs. I already beat my body up, that's why I don't do it with exercise. The cardio You do is really good but I would find it boring because I'm moving all day. I'm glad You can do that, You're very dedicated to Your health.

It’s well established in the running world that endurance is built by building a big base with long and slower runs for distance volume. Once this base is built, speed training comes into play. These established and proven training principles are equally applicable to all fitness activities.
This assumes there is an activity that you want to get better at as measured by time to complete or work completed (sets, rounds, reps, etc.). If not, long and slow is probably best for general fitness if you’ve got the time and it aligns with your training personality.

I'll skip the running. For me it's not worth the pounding and injuries. So if I really have no endurance base I'll just stick to what I'm doing. I can do my jobs, that's all that is important to me.

Michael, I believe I may have been misunderstood. You don’t have to run to build endurance unless it’s running endurance you want.
All I was attempting to say is that running training principals to improve endurance and running performance are equally applicable to other fitness endeavors.

An active lifestyle like Michael's is of course good for cardiovascular health.

Yeah, I misunderstood what You were saying Pierini. Pavel mentions slow as better for the heart, the way I understood it.

As far as I'm concerned, you are "Doc Savage" compared to my Benny Hill. If I get a hangnail, I can call it a day. Tomorrow is another day. Ur livelihood depends on being fit. Rain or shine. It took me 4 years to recover from my accident. I'm simply in a holding pattern to keep from becoming a complete physical degenerate. I've had to take drastic action because of my dire circumstances: Money. Truth be told I'd rather kick back scratching my ass while sipping on a Guinness stout & chomping on some Orville Redenbacher's Gourmet popcorn. But I can't. I sit all day online pimping for money long enough as it is. If I had ur job, I'd just call it a day. Miller Time.
