We had the most hellacious thunder storm here this evening, of the type only found in the Midwest - sky dark as night, booming thunder and crashing lightening, wind gusts of up to 80 mph, an absolute deluge of rain and hail. We had shut all our blinds and settled in for the evening. It was night outside. And then at about 8:45 I came out of our room and when I passed the dining room blinds, I saw the brightest orange light shining on them. I thought, have our neighbors turned on a bright light?
I stepped out the front door, and the entire sky was lit up, completely orange! It cast an orange hew over everything. I've never seen anything like it! At the same time, people from all up and down the street were stepping out of their houses to marvel at the spectacle. The sky was brightest orange in the West, and in the East, against the clouds was the most beautiful, sharpest, and clearest rainbow. You could hear oohs and ahs all up and down Main Street!

Did you catch sight of the Mothership and/or any escorting smaller craft ? Usually when the thunder and lightning starts up, such ships use the huge electromagnetic pulses to fold space and travel from one dimension to another.
Some debate exists that it's the ships themselves that cause the thunder and lightning, rather than they simply taking advantage of the opportunity. Daughter and I have seen bands of different coloured lightning crossing the sky that were completely silent, with a ship roughly a mile long appearing and fading out directly above.
Have never seen a sky full of orange though. Lovely experience.

I'd be thumbing a ride if I saw that. Take me outta here.
Seriously though, I once saw some clouds that looked like a giant vagina.

Did you manage to get a photo Bruce?

Nope. But I saw a couple of neighbors out there with cameras. I'll see if I can score a pic or two from them. I might have them by the time JP gets pics of Uncle Milo from his sister.

Yes it's possible that JP's orange dye that he used to colour his hair with has gone amiss, and covered the whole sky. He always wanted people to look up to him. His wish has come true...........

As threatened, here is a pic I scored from our very sweet neighbor across the street. That is her house against the backdrop of the orange sky. Attachments:

This site has a photo a day, often from amateur but competent astro-photographers that work in some Earthly terrain with features of the stars and planets. Sometimes cloud formations and/or weather conditions are the focus, alone. apod.nasa.gov/apod/archivepix.html Maybe NASA might be interested in one of the orange sky photos ?
