I worked in high crime/high fire neighborhoods for my entire career on the FDNY and often used to walk to my firehouse which was 7 1/2 miles from where I lived which took me through some very rough areas.....East New York, Brownsville, Crown Heights and Prospect Heights, all in Brooklyn......Mags will know them I'm not a big guy but always stayed fit and walked through those neighborhoods like I belonged there, never gave anyone a 2nd look and if there was a group in my way just walked either around or through them.....I never had a problem, not a remark or a look I did this many times and the old guys playing chess on Eastern Parkway even began to recognize me and said "hello". Sometimes it's not how bad you are, it's just how you carry yourself

...often used to walk to my firehouse which was 7 1/2 miles from where I lived... Was it uphill in both directions?

Sometimes it's not how bad you are, it's just how you carry yourself Years ago I used to sometimes stop and play a game or two when I worked for the tree service and then later on when I was working for the mechanical contractor. Those guys were good, but the best chess players I ever saw were the Jamaican(?) guys in the parks that played two 'money' games at once with the egg timers. They were pretty much invincible in those super fast paced games, but I did become able to almost compete with them when someone recommended this book.. www.amazon.com/Bobby-Fischer-Teaches-Chess/dp/0553263153

Hurricane force at the minimum When I was a young kid I once snuck off the line for the school bus ride home and walked to my house the long way, cutting through the woods on a super stormy, very windy day, pretty sure it was a hurricane... I eventually got home pretty late from my adventure, police had already been called and were out looking for me... When I opened the front door my mother was crying, but her crying flew into a rage when I said "what's the big deal, I felt like walking home"...I think that was the first time I ever got whipped with a coat hanger... OUCH

View AttachmentNot too long ago, JP embellished your story, veggietoes. He said you let loose with a "thunderous right hand!" I almost wet myself laughing so hard. Oh. He also enlightened everyone to the fact that Max Baer defeated Primo Carnera because Baer was "Atlas trained".

"One fist of iron, the other of steel. If the right one don't get you then the left one will."
Who said that? Huh? Anybody?
