Now in my 5th decade, most of my life I believed there was an underlying support system of civilized society. No matter how bad things got, the foundation was there, Good would always triumph over Evil, We're from the Gubment and we're here to help. About a month before coronavirus hit the U.S., I was talking very hypothetically with a friend about this idea. I said the system is seldom ever really "tested" by multiple or sequential events, but we can usually handle a single major event, and then have time to rebound. Now we have sequential events, and the pillars are rattling. The police are now the bad guys, the looters and criminals are heroes in the media, COVID will likely make a big comeback later this year, and who knows what else hits in the meantime.
Where I live, the city has had curfews for the last week after scumbag looters raided every cellphone and jewelry store, vandalized the war memorial, and basically shit on the city with no regard or consequence. I have never wanted to carry a gun until now. I have always carried a knife as a self defense weapon, but what we see are groups of thugs circling and attacking lone individuals, beating them to death or very close with skateboards or whatever else. It's time to stop pretending that safety net is there. We have to be our own safety net. What's coming is coming, the global celebration of stupidity will arrive at every doorstep. I plan to answer the door with a .45

I plan to answer the door with a .45 El Capitan, you're not alone in your thoughts. Unbelievable that some cities are now talking about disbanding their police. Minneapolis, New York and Los Angeles (not talking about disbanding but redirecting police budget to social programs) come to mind. Once these liberal pinko city council members get robbed by a crook, then we'll see how great they think their idea is. It's absolutely disgusting. I've never been a hard core political rant type but things are changing. Let's pray that President Trump prevails in November. Even the non-praying type needs to be praying for this. And, hopefully, Justice Ruth will pass soon so President Trump can get another good one added to the Supreme Court. I'm not a New Yorker and generally mind my own business but I'm making an exception and mouthing off that the NYC Mayor and NY Governor can't be the best NY has to offer its people. And, closer to home, Teflon Gavin Newsom leaves a lot to be desired. When my wife and I met him umpteen years ago, I knew the first moment we talked to him that he was a felonious phony baloney pretty boy dude. Even the Dumbocrats in the California legislature and the wacko liberal hometown fake newspaper of mine are taking target practice with him. Meanwhile, its almost like the majority of Americans are adoring Floyd George or whatever his name is. Granted he didn't deserve to die and how the police officer kneeled on him for a long time wasn't the best way to restrain him, the guy was a convicted felon who tried to pass a counterfeit $20 bill, was under the influence of both drugs and alcohol and definitely wasn't a person deserving to be adored like he is. How about the cop in Las Vegas who died? Now there's someone I would take a kneel for, thanking him for his service. There are a lot of stupid white people running around trying to be BLM sympathizers but if one of their lilly white daughters brought a brother home and told her parents this is the man she wanted to shack up with, her parents would then show their true colors. I'm sure glad I'm self-employed and that no client accounts for more than 5 to 7 percent of my income. If any client saw what I've posted here or perhaps will write on my blog and came to me upset and threatening to can me, I'd give them the middle finger for being stupid and fire them first. I feel sorry for those in the corporate world who are subjected to corporate nonsense trying to appease the leftist agenda. NBA sports announcer in my city who had been doing his job for over 30 years was immediately dismissed when someone asked him on Twitter if Black Lives Matter to him and he replied All Lives Matter. The powers to be thought what he tweeted was terrible and he was suddenly out of his job. Glad I'm not a foolish fan supporting that team with my hard-earned dollars. Absolutely disgusting. I'm done ranting. Again, El Capitan, I know how you're thinking.

That's terrible, Cap'n! By all means, get yourself a gun! I feel for all of you living in big cities, and all that you're going through now. Except for Alan. He's probably relishing every moment of this. Just don't walk up to any cops, Alan, and try to engage in conversation while they are clearing the streets. I guess this is one time I'm glad I live in a small Midwestern town stuck out in the middle of nowhere. Life goes on here as it always has. We've had only two COVID cases here, as well. For anyone thinking of getting a knife for protection, spring-assist is the way to go. They are legal and better than switch blades. Each of these three companies have scores to choose from. Get one (or two - they are ridiculously inexpensive and very well made) with index finger flippers. They are easier to open than with a thumb post, although the knives with flippers have thumb posts, as well. www.tigeredge.com/www.budk.com/www.grindworx.com/

We don't have much in the way of handguns here in NZ, except for the cops and crims. I'm a bit wary of using a knife as well. I'm no expert and it could be taken from me and used against me.
Fingers are your best bet if you're not much with a knife. There's eyes and throat plus the family jewels. A good jab with the fingers in the solar will put most down. You've got both hands as well. Train up with your grippers. Don't poke your hands into buckets of sand etc. You'll shag your nervous system up. Do finger-tip pushups, that'll do. You're not trying to penetrate bamboo armour.

I'd opt for a knife any day. Having lived in Baltimore and San Francisco, I have carried a knife since I was in my early twenties. I've had to pull it out on three separate occasions, and each time it was a deterrent.

You know Bruce you gave me an idea. The face hook or cheek rip or mouth hook can be a very very effective self defense maneuver. The only danger is getting your fingers bitten off. Can you imagine sticking your hook in there and then ripping. Wow. And if police come around you can say it is just my exercise equipment. And don't get me started on a heavy duty strap with handles. What a perfect industrial choker
This combo could take down any bad actor. Add in a latex tubing snap blast to the eye and it is all over
