Makes sense but some may disagree, that's ok.

I agree with Jason's philosophy of exercise and focus on paying attention to how the exercise feels to the individual. He seems to actually care that the viewer receives something to use. Although I may have misunderstood what he was saying, but the only point that didn't sound right to me was when he was talking about hanging loose being a bad thing, then I realized he's specifically talking about avoiding an extended-arm, un-tensed hang at the bottom of a pull up rep.

Yeah he was talking about with the pulllup. Everyone has different opinions on this subject but I agree with him from my personal experience. I don't keep my arms as bent as Jason. When I do Pullups they feel good. I'm very interested in saving my elbows and shoulders so feeling the muscles work is more important to me. When I was chasing reps and doing dead hang Pullups years ago they didn't seem to give me the results I wanted. Plus they hurt, no reason for that.

I drape a folded towel over the top of a door about 15cm from the lateral edge. This position maximizes the lat engagement. Monday I use a stretched position. Wednesday I use a middle range. Friday a full contraction. Holds are 10s on/10s off done 6x. 1 to 3 sets total depending how I feel. Feel strong. Joints great. Nothing tweaked. Simple. Shoulder presses compliment the pull ups.

I like what he says on the whole video. But what he says about science and what people say at 8:51 is exactly how I feel.

Moxohol, That's a nice isometric workout, Thanks for sharing. I agree, Presses compliment Pullups. I like supersetting them. My shoulder started clicking so I added shoulder presses in the stretched position only. However, I positioned my forearms in front of me hands neutral using Forearm Forklift. The exercise described is a good stimulus but taking 2g of gelatin & Vitamin C 30-60 minutes prior seemed to help. We all heard the benefits of GH as it relates to healing tweaks. So, I concocted a leg press scheme whereas I use a yoga strap looped over my shoulder & under the armpit & over the foot sole knee flexed in the stretched position. Lay on my back, shove a pillow under my head & just go nuts. I include negative lunges as a finisher. Left side/day off/right side/day off.... I take a nap afterwards & ensure I go to bed early on leg days.

Yeah he was talking about with the pulllup. ....... When I was chasing reps and doing dead hang Pullups years ago they didn't seem to give me the results I wanted. Plus they hurt, no reason for that. That's it^^^. That's the hurtful one. "Dead hang pull-ups for reps" ... and especially reps more than a couple. I think I may have mentioned the last time we discussed the dead hang that, if I do a slo-mo pull-up or two, I do it at the beginning of a hang session with tension held and only partial lowering. Once I let myself down to hang loose, I'm done with pulling up for that session.

As I got done doing tree work today I was thinking about how I was hurting a little afterward. Some people don't realize the wear and tear the body takes when doing certain things. If You take notes and notice what's going on when You exercise You can stop a lot of pain. Some people don't get the wear and tear from their jobs so they may get away with some things that I can't. I'm not going to do exercise that hurts. If someone is going to hang then hang. I do pullups and chins sometimes but my form is for me to stay away from golfer's elbow and rotator cuff problems. They feel good and I feel it in the back muscles where it is supposed to be felt, So I'm tracking with You Mr. P.

Michael, I used to advocate doing pull-ups from a dead hang, at full extension. That initial pull from the bottom was hard on my right shoulder, so I stopped. Now I just focus on feel and keeping the range shorter. It still works the muscles, and doesn’t put a strain on my shoulders anymore. I use the same principle when I do bar dips. as Mr P might say, I don’t care what others say is “ the right way.” I’m doing what works for me. I’ll keep an open mind and modify things as needed on my ongoing fitness journey.
