hope saint hole? 'Hopefully without holes.'
You know.....those ones that appear when someone you don't know but has also been told who the enemy is (by those safely out of the way) points a gun at you and scores direct hits designed to remove you from any further interest in the action.
In other words, what a waste.

If you like having your days all organized for you without the freedom to chose what you want to do, sent to wherever some high-up person in the food chain who probably will never see (and has never seen) frontline service, and has determined who your latest enemy is that you should point your gun and fire at, and be compelled to learn French as your prime language, then go to it.
Don't get me wrong, if the coast of NZ was being directly invaded, you'd find me there either as an armed defender on the hillside, or in a ship throwing shells etc at the invading force.
But if you don't really feel like going off-shore and renouncing your citizenship, learning how to be a piece of cannon fodder in support of the arms industry and its massive profits and those same high-ups who live in luxury thereof, then don't enlist.
Go and do something pro-life, not anti-life. There's plenty of civvy jobs who have heroes. Some of them are members of this forum.
Macky RNZNVR AB Gunner (A very long time ago) Invasion now is not done militarily. It's done via unchecked immigration and breeding.

Indeed. There are incalculable and quite simple ways to be a benefit to the people around us.

Invasion now is not done militarily. It's done via unchecked immigration and breeding. Yes true. But mainly only the "western" Five Eyes countries and parts of Europe. Nobody in their right mind wants to emigrate to Russia or China for example, unless it's for a very specific purpose.
But underneath all this is the traitors who shop our jobs out to China for example, ruining whole industries in our home countries. In the meantime, the diminishing of our apprenticeships so that all we are left with are facet workers who are paid accordingly (low) and are compelled to sign up to individual contracts in order to get the job.
Because of low wages the family unit (the basic building block of any society) suffers as the mother of the family is also compelled to go out to work in order to bring the income up to what the husband used to earn by himself.
And as a thumb in the nose, said shopping of jobs out to China (3.2 million American jobs as of about 4 years ago, since the beginning of this century) a politically-opposed regime where child and sweat-shop labour remains a significant percentage of the work force.
And the immigrants who are rich pour into our countries and buy up petrol station franchises etc. Chinese come over and buy up land with interest-free loans from Chinese banks. And the poor immigrants take the jobs that should go to our country's nationals who have paid their dues all their lives through taxes and hard work, but have now been stood down because the new immigrant will work at the same job for less.
And our governments let it all happen.
Our countries are being undermined from within, by greed for money and the power it brings, by short-sighted policies that encourage immigration while our health and welfare systems become overwhelmed with too many people to deal with.
We have allowed ourselves to worship false values, where a dedicated nurse or fireman, or policeman get modest wages while some golfer or football player picks up hundreds of thousands hitting a little white pill around the park or running around a paddock chasing a bag of wind.
Anybody who enlists in any military force under the above circumstances should have a very clear idea of who he's fighting for, and why. The lines have become blurred.
The old idea of joining the French foreign legion for adventure and world travel is outmoded by decades.
Personally, I wouldn't trust the French as far as I can kick them. Even French people that I know don't like the French. Until recently with the Christchurch shootings, the French committed the only overt terrorist attack on NZ homeland ever, back in 1985 when they bombed the Rainbow Warrior in Auckland Harbour wharves.

JRG did You go to college or ever think about going to college? Or what about learning some kind of trade? Forget about the french foreign legion.. I only considered that because it would be an ultimte escape like running away from my problems. The problem is quite frankly that I learned a job that I don't really like, I am not very good at (maybe okay at best) and I don't earn properly with which is my biggest problem. I have a lot of fears of the future because of that and to be honest I don't wanna be poor forever. Doing another apprenticeship is no option because I have to pay rent, bills etc. And I don't wanna invest another 3 years and be an apprentice again and get payed even less than now. I really want to invest in further education, it's my biggest goal because it opens the doors to better jobs and a better life. First of all I need to find a new job to pay the bills and survive though! Unfortunately I lost my job at the worst possible time and now the only jobs that are still available are the ones that nobody wanted, shit jobs. The problem is time and money. I need to save money to be able to pay for further education. When I have the money I need a job that actually allows me to go to school in the evening. What I really want is the chance to improve my life by educating myself further. If I have to work an absolute shit job on the side that would be okay because it's for the bigger goal. But I really need that goal to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Otherwise it's very depressing. If you really hate a job and don't have a girl or a family that keeps you pushing, and your only motivation is to survive .. it sucks! Where there's a will, there's a way.. my will just need to be strong enough! Right now my self-doubts are holding me back and dragging me down. I need to stop complaining and need to try harder. I must reach my goals

It is a tricky one. I've been a lawyer for 15 years now. I've hated it for many of those years but liked it for 6 or 7 of them.
You've got to find meaning outside of work I think. For most people family and children seem to be the key.
Or find a hobby you're passionate about and put all your free time into that.

I'm not sure what country you're in but in the UK my advice to youngsters would be forget university now unless it is essential (doctor, lawyer, vet). Instead learn a trade -- plumber, electrician etc.

It is a beauty. You could store an entire fruitcake in there. Enough preservatives to keep in tropical climates.

Enlist, learn that, walk out with a skill and the GI Bill which will put you through any further schooling you might wish to do. Go talk to a recruiter, all kinds of options.

Military service can definitely give you some skills and benefits including exposure to people from other parts of the country and how to get along with them, including the difficult ones hailing from such places as Pratt, Kansas.
In my era, it taught also how to drink and get laid if you had certain overseas assignments.

….which doesn't unfortunately always work.
It's a great industry in the US, 600 billion a year, three times as much as the next big spender, China. The US was NOT in armed conflict somewhere around the Globe for only 6 years in the 20th century, and of course this century speaks for itself.
