Today is my 24th birthday. Of course I'm alone at home since I don't have friends, family or a girlfriend, but it's okay. I have electricity, a full fridge and roof over my head that's all I need. I already did my first workout in the morning and I will do another one later as every day. That's one of the few things that actually bring me joy. What has always been my biggest fear however is getting older... I'm scared of it. It's unstoppable and irreversible. I just think that at some point "it's too late". I'm 24, haven't achieved anything of note in my life, barely know myself, have no real goals, no aspirations, nothing that drives me forward. Sometimes in the morning when I wake up I'm like "for what am I doing this?" .. I just work to survive. I'm like "is that all? this can't be it".. I don't like my job, it's not fun, I'm not even very good at it! I just do it to pay my rent. I think that's the case for many people. Many people don't like their job isn't that normal? What bothers me is that there is nothing in life that I'm really good at. Other people they have a passion, something they happily put all their energy into. It's their purpose in life. A path they can follow. I'm just here, running in circles. I just wish I had some kind of purpose in life, a mission, something I can identify with and work towards. I can't be the only one who has/had these problems. I wish my father was still alive he always had advice and showed me the way.. Happy Birthday, JRG! Yeah, getting older doesn't stop until we die. That's the way it is. Change what you can and accept what cannot be changed. When did you lose your dad? You have no family? Family is just a word and I apply it to anyone who is interested in my welfare. I think what you're feeling is common, but I don't really know what "normal" is and that's OK. No need to do anything great or be really good at something. No need to put pressure on yourself or try to live up to someone else's checklist. Just do something that is helpful. Find a face-to-face community function (doesn't need to be a formal organization), people that are doing things that interest you and whose activities do not conflict with your values, and volunteer to help without a formal commitment. If you find it doesn't suit, try something else. You'll find people that share your interests and make friends/family by being one. When you help others, you help yourself. Picking up the trash, thrown onto the Earth by disrespectful people, while going for a walk is a simple option. I think you're lying to yourself here: I think you just haven't yet realized what those things are. Trying different things without obligating yourself and following what attracts you and that you enjoy will eventually make the things you're good at evident. Be patient and kind with yourself - it's unreasonable to expect anyone else to be patient and kind toward you, although it's nice when that happens, isn't it? Others will see and appreciate the kindness you show toward others and may want to be your friend, although it may not be the people who you are patient and kind to. Your path is revealed to you, one step at a time. No need to try to rush it. Enjoy the journey. Good and bad occurs, but ultimately, it all serves you.

Happy birthday, JRG! Yeah, time flies very fast. I am almost 69, but I try to fight the age and illness until now. Good luck in your life and training. Best wishes!

First off... HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Secondly, I will be 50 later this year and yes I am too dreading getting old, why? Because I may not be able to do things I can still do now. I still train regularly, such as I did a Deadlift workout on Friday, nothing to write home about but I did 145 kg for reps. So nothing world class and record breaking but I was happy with it. I still practice martial arts 3 to 4 times per week, walk around 4 to 5+ miles per day, work nights, have two children and a partner who also works, so we juggle the children between us. So what I am trying to say is just keep on going, don't think I can't do, just do and you will find out that you can do more than what you actually think you can. And go out and mingle. Your situation is not that different from mine, the only difference is that I do not need to find time to workout and I work from 14.00 to 22.00. Lucky for me the wife only works part-time.

Don't sweat the girlfriend thing, we live in a new age of dating. I'm 51 now and get a lot more play than I did in my 20's. The girls don't look like they did in their 20's, that's the downside. I talk to women all the time who feel like they wasted 10-20 years with the wrong guy. I could say that about my ex-wife, but I have kids from that and wouldn't change a thing. Life is just living. You don't have to invent something or discover a tomb in a jungle to make it mean something. Knock up a chick and life gets real interesting real fast, then you'll be sitting there thinking, "damn, I had it made when I was single and doing my own thing". We always want what we don't have.

Inspire others and you will be inspired. Encourage others and you will be encouraged. Laughter and joy are beneficial to health. Find people to hang with that you enjoy and with whom you share a common sense of humor as a group (could be only one other person at first). Aaahhhhhoooooooommmmmmmmmmmmmm ...... ( ) Oh ...... and don't take yourself seriously. Just play no matter what you do.

HBD, JRG!
You're 24, so you're still young. Middle age doesn't set in until age 27, and even after that you can work really hard, as evidenced on this board. Try to find a creative outlet for your energies. Build or create something. If you like TV and movies, maybe take an acting or improv class. Acting is a physical art, which is why many athletes go into acting as part of their careers. You should be able to find gigs for just being in good shape. And the theater folks I know have a really supportive community, as they're all kind of looking for a family.
Also, try giving a listen to Napoleon Hill. His philosophy saved my life back when I was your age. His definition of wealth and riches is really great, and he provides a strategy on how to get them.

Thanks so much for all the great comments (I read all of them) and birthday wishes! Not sure what I was thinking when I wrote that.. I feel great now.
I put too much pressure on me being somebody. Maybe I just need to drop the idea of becoming someone. There must be millions of nobodies like me out there who "just get on" with life. Who says that you need a house, a wife, a career etc. I'll just keep doing my thing and keep training. I think I will join some sports club maybe a rowing club that could be fun and let's see what happens 👍

Back in the 60's I read an article in a muscle mag. It was about a guy who built a great physique - big muscles. He had been an average guy. 5'7", 140 lbs. with average looks. He was miserable. He said there is nothing worse than being average. He was never noticed. He got skipped over in waiting lines. He said that at least even the skinny runt and the big fat guy got noticed. In his loneliness he hung out at a magazine stand, and it was there that he picked up a muscle mag and was inspired to give it a shot. And then, one day, he was suddenly being noticed and his life had changed.
Working out is one of the best things you can do for yourself. It is mega self-improvement. It is instant gratification. The results are immediate. You get a great sense of accomplishment. It goes a long way in boosting self esteem and building confidence.

....... Not sure what I was thinking when I wrote that.. I feel great now. ....... I have a thought .... Your brain has been receiving some nasty crap fake food. Brain fog, irritability, depression - these are common experiences on toxic fake-food. On March 31: On April 5: April 6: Coincidence? You decide.

The guy was 5'7 1/2", and as well as building an awesome physique, he had increased his height to 5'8 1/2". I thought of something else you might want to consider - evening college classes. You could sign up for just one course. It would get you out of the house and into an environment where you are surrounded by intelligent people with serious goals. Who knows? It could put you on the path to a more rewarding life. And talk about personal self improvement! Well, I just shudder to think! And listen to what mikey said about food. It's true. You are what you eat. I got poo-pooed for this (which I'm used to) but I had posted about my taking Centrum vitamins and I do notice a marked improvement in my energy level and sense of well being.
