Alexander Zass built his body and strength through using weights first. Plus a lot of people do isometrics daily without even training or giving it a second thought.

I read that before, interesting article. Myself personally, after a long bout with isometrics only my body seems to crave movement. I like doing both.

Movement beyond our chosen workouts is healthy . Being sedentary throughout the day sucks.

Thanks for posting, Bruce. "Static Dynamic Training" (Page 8) is a really great method that might have max/combined benefits. I use this method for several months, and it works great. Preliminary isometric holdings before dynamic self-resistance sets help to develop higher muscle tension, and thus, increase the efficiency of dynamic self-resistance training.

Isometric training can be very useful, but if you like to move, it can get a bit boring.
Perso, I cant stick to strength training strictly using isos more than a few weeks at a time.

Isometrics are sometimes given credit for building starting strength or speed strength. Steve Justa and others have said as much. I'm no physiologist and I've never seen a study, but...
I have a working theory and that is as Bruce said, our bodies are MEANT to move. As such I believe that when contracting a muscle and it is not allowed to move, the body doesn't understand or comprehend that. As such something is changed chemically in the muscle cells involved. Let's call it substance X. Anyway, much like other negative feedback loops in the body when something doesn't happen, the substance that is involved making that something happen is increased. So the body increases production of the chemical substances that trigger or help muscle movement.
Just like when you are getting a bunch of testosterone by the needle, the body tells the nuts, we don't need you to make anymore T, we have enough, the same sort of thing happens when we are low on something, the body cranks up the production. When that happens due to isometrics and the lack of movement, there is more of the substance that fosters movement, thus our starting strength or speed are improved.
That's my deep thought for the evening.

I've done isometrics only for months on end, near a year sometimes. I don't have a problem with boredom because of it, nor do I have any desire to exercise with movement, because I move plenty during the daily chores, looking after the grandchildren, lifting things etc.
I think if one was immobile during most of the day because of some malady, there might be a problem. In the other hand, if they were immobile because they have to be to recover in hospital, then isometric flexing could be the go. That might be all they can do anyway.

Move it or lose it, the body is meant to move! Also, folks with high blood pressure should not do isometrics.
