Also those of us who like working with sandbags and/or stones.

Yup, I come from a heavy manual labor background and have always known this. *waiting for Michael to chime in...

Yeah, Magnus we know this. By the way, , I miss talking arm training with Bruce. I use to like when some would make fun of him for training his arms because they were immature old queers. That was a pretty good video. I've heard people say," Why do You worry about training Your arms"? They always think it's all about aesthetics, of course I don't want my arms looking like the meat is going to fall of the bone. But most guys that say this stuff don't realize how much Your biceps are used doing manual labor. There are motions and like in the video, isometric type stuff done all the time. I personally don't care about have huge arms and that's not why I train my biceps. I train for muscular endurance and some isometric aspects. Because I know from my work experience the biceps are important. I remember watching some videos from Brian Alsruhe about him not doing curls. He said he built his biceps with heavy carries. I never really did super heavy carries but I have done a lot of KB carries. Goblet carries are a good one. But I still do some bicep curls for the endurance factor.

Also those of us who like working with sandbags and/or stones. I have a small collection of heavy sand filled 'slam' balls from 10 pounds all the way up to a 90 pounder that I work out with on a regular basis. I also have a XXL sandbag 'shell' that can be loaded up with a few of my heavier slam balls for when I want to up the poundage. During tonights workout it occurred to me that anyone who thinks that bicep strength doesn't matter in 'real world' (functional?) lifting / carrying strength doesn't have the foggiest notion from the furthest clue when it comes to this particular subject...

Do these people that think strong biceps don't matter actually exist or are you guys arguing with people inside your own heads?

Alexander Zass recommended sandbag training after doing an iso' session. It was included in all his syllabus. I believe the sandbag training portion is only available in russian.

Yes, we’re imagining the whole thing, especially the old gym joke about doing “curls in the squat rack”, along with the old ‘Bench Press & Curl’ training routine done 3 x per week if you’re a ‘Guido’ from Brooklyn or Staten Island… 🤓

Oh, and btw, direct biceps training is FUNCTIONAL TRAINING… 🥸 I was wondering when this thread might cue that argument.

Oh, and btw, direct biceps training is FUNCTIONAL TRAINING… 🥸 I was wondering when this thread might cue that argument. No argument here. Mags is correct. Focused exercise to increase strength for a particular purpose, a particular activity or in a particular muscle or group of muscles is functional training.

But both don't realize, I didn't say anything about meat shortage so they both should be safe. People with meat shortage always forget. Tiddleywinks for them.

I believe it's the term "functional strength" (not training) that sets things off.

Oh, and btw, direct biceps training is FUNCTIONAL TRAINING… 🥸 Of course. As is all muscle training apart from the non-functional muscle training featured in my upcoming book, m8s
