ROM is important for the development of proprioceptive strength in myofibillular protein & the resetting of Golgi Tendon Organ. ROM is not needed for building muscle. Static Contraction Training & Isometronics are examples that contradict ROM. I'd also suggest this: if your activity or sport requires the performance of full ROM exercises (eg powerlifting), then, it would be important to use this method. For longer term safety, partials and isometrics will pretty much accomplish the same results with reduced risk of placing connective tissue in a compromised position, or, subject them to the (potential) wear and tear created by repetitive exercise. As noted by moxohol, Pete Sisco/John Little validated this performing studies with average guys in their 30s, 40s, etc., with so-so genetics like me producing very good results. Same with partial reps: again, Sisco's Power Factor training showed you don't need full ROM to get great results via individuals who used the approach to add LBM. Unfortunately, the Bro Science claims are still pretty pervasive. During a periodization phase, I'll do isometronics as instructed by Doc Zegler & Bill Starr. I use resistance bands for this purpose attached to a straight bar with carabiners. I have hooks attached to the doorposts of my bathroom to stop me. I change up my focus every quarterly. 1st quarter is general prep phase/cardio. 2nd is strength phase. 3rd is daily road work with jump skipping, farmer's carry & isometric sled. 4th is lots of swimming & longstrength.

I personally can't stand the way he looks or his gym and I can't say why. Just don't like it. I agree 1000% (except the gym part). It is an "atavistic" feeling, I guess...

I actually learned a couple of things from Jeff. Some corrective stuff that has helped me stay injury-free. I don't think it's always about the amount of weight You can lift. There was a discussion om here one time about how a trainer looks and his information. Remember the Drew Baye thing. Jeff is lean but someone actually had time to investigate him to criticize him. Doesn't matter the amount of weight You lift. Isn't it all about tension and Time Under Tension? I like reading the posts on here from everyone. What bothers You guys about the way he looks? I don't get it. I can only think of three guys on this forum that look as lean and muscular as Jeff: Whiffet, Silverlooks, and Baz. I'm nowhere near as lean and muscular as him. That's a lot of hard work diet and exercise wise.

Jeff looks OK to me, but I can't be bothered to listen to people who don't understand ROM and fake their lifts for video benefit.

Late to this discussion - my primary focus is to build “real athleticism” and take any “real muscle” growth as frosting on my middle-age man fitness training cake.

Pretty sure he understands ROM, just has a different opinion. One way doesn't fit everyone.

I don't agree with everything he says, but have learned some good stuff from him. I have not found anyone on the net I totally agree with when it comes to training, so I take what works for me and leave the rest. Heck, looking back, I don't even agree with the way I use to tell myself was the best way to train.
As for fake weights I can't really come down on him for that as I have practiced VRT for years and have lifted cars, trains, and once, while pretending to be Atlas, the whole world!
In this video he talks about the need for both partial and full range reps (depending on goals).

15 minutes to say, "I don't care." Must be some kind of record. I've learned a couple things from Jeff, but I value my time so I listen most to the guys that mirror my interests like Steve Maxwell, Cedric Nye, Pete Wagner, Dan John (carries), Matt Schifferle and most recent, Jason Gallant. I get a higher percentage of useable stuff from them than I have from Jeff. Yeah, the fake weights, I don't really care either, but I respect someone who is observant enough to detect the fake and willing to dedicate the time to making his case. Kinda cool.

I think Charles Atlas was doing fake pushups.....just kidding. I never cared for what anybody said they did after age 23......that was 31 years ago. Whether it's Atlas and his 200 chair dips/day, Peterson and his numbers, or some guy heaving heavy iron doesn't matter to me. At the end of the day it's how I FEEL with MY body and the good FEELING and ENJOYMENY I get from my exercises. I like the old PC (Physical culture) which, to me, says to do the best you can to eat right and get all kinds of HEALTHY exercise. ......Take CARE and stay HEALTHY and cool!

I don't have a problem with Jeff. He has done very well for himself. Fake weights - maybe, almost certainly. I don't personally like his look, too lean, thin neck, no traps etc, but also I have to say, he looks way better than I do so who am I to comment!

I've heard other guys mention this on this forum. I believe my neck is thin and I have no traps but I feel really good. Is that just an aesthetic thing or do You believe that's a health thing? I do self resistance neck exercises 2-3 times a week because it feels good and I need endurance in my neck for tree work. I don't do anything directly for traps. What do people do for their traps anyhow? Just curious. I use to do shrugs years ago but was told by the guy that did my shoulder operation not to do them.

Who cares if he uses fake plates, he’s certainly not the only person to do it. Ever seen any of Gracyanne Barbosa’s videos? Unless he claims to be able to lift such and such weight or in the case of a white pants wearing minister in Minnesota claim to do a million flawless reps of every known self-resistance exercise in the universe. The issue is the same whether taking diet and exercise advice from a weak potato shaped slob or adonis. Is the information and training advice true?

...... What do people do for their traps anyhow? ..... Trap bar? I think the loaded carries you do would develop the traps you'd need. As far as appearance goes, genetics are the limit. I believe you can, however, change your gene expression by how you think. It's called "epigenetics". I've become a believer in that, although some will think it's woowoo, boy.

That makes sense. I forgot that carries work that. They feel good and I like doing them. So I guess I do work my traps. , damn genetics.
