These guys have some incredible free information on their site and it is very similar to diets avocated by McDougall, Esselstyn, etc., whose dietary recommendations for decades have included:
1. Grains. Oats, wheat, etc. 2. Legumes 3. Vegetables 4. Fruits
They have also recommended avoiding processed foods such as oils -- include olive, since they begin going rancid after being extracted, and aren't in their natural state, and have shown by studies to create plaque ("aterial streaks") during testing by researchers. Avoiding 'animal proteins' is another part of their protocol and eliminating inflammatory foods including processed carbs, Saturated Fats.
The ability to reverse heart disease, reverse Type 2 diabetes (and pre-diabetes aka insulin resistance) and other diseases with their diet is unprecedented. Joel Fuhrman's is similar, but, it allows for small amounts of animal protein (fish, preferrably).
Others advocating nearly the same thing:
- Dr. Dale Breseden, MD. Pioneering researcher at UCLA on reversing Alzheimer's. - Dr. David Katz, MD. Yale University. - Dr. Valter Longo, PhD. USC's world-recognized expert on longevity.

Although many( e.g. Longo ) who recommend vegan diets also encourage the inclusion of olive oil , I hit the bypass key on it . I almost enjoy dry salads .

Longo cites studies where people are consuming large amounts of olive oil daily and other supporters of higher fat diets (eg Hyman) reference this as the rationale for their approach. At the same time, processed and not delivered the way nature intended and who wants a food that is has begun going rancid?
