I never had a name for this exercise but I've done it when a pull up bar wasn't available. I did it with a rolled up bath towel with hands held at shoulder width. I would grab the towel and pull it apart and keep tension the whole time I did the exercise. It felt really good to me.
You can also do it with the HOOK and Bruce's cables. Don't know the science but if a person can't do pull ups for some reason it's a nice little exercise.

Vince advocated chins to the bottom of your pecs (aka 'sternum chin ups') which 99% of his trainees -- myself included -- could not do first time out. But, if I recall his gym had a pulldown machine and you built up your strength and form on that, first, to work up to the actual chinning movement (which I find is way easier on your elbows vs. regular chins). So, I'm not sure what this gentleman's recommending vs. what Vince taught: ironguru.com/vince-gironda-sternum-chin-ups/The cable rows were done in a different fashion...you'd start with your upper body parallel to the ground and then slowly sit up while performing the rowing motion: ironguru.com/category/training/back-building/(I you have access to a gym with a machine that will permit this movement, you'll probably be a little sore first time out.) But, I can't find anything that lines up with what is in the video?

Yeah Texas I have no idea except what I heard from Greg, Yourself and others on the internet. After hearing you guys talk about Vince and the one RIC Drasin video I started watching some of this guys videos. Apparently he learned from Vince. He has a book out called Convinced. I was looking at the table of contents and he has a bunch of exercises in there he said he learned from Vince. Maybe if you get time you can look at the exercises he wrote. Again I have no idea what exercises Vince recommend.
Anyhow, I seen this exercise while watching the video and it was one I used KSHD style but with a towel. It's a good exercise if You have no other way to do a back exercise. No equipment needed, that was my point.

But, if I recall his gym had a pulldown machine and you built up your strength and form on that, first, to work up to the actual chinning movement (which I find is way easier on your elbows vs. regular chins). Pull ups to the chest are really difficult. I can manage the first two on my my first set of 8 but after that, I get progressively lower. Jeff Cavaliere is an advocate of pull ups to the chest too. Personally I don't think a pulldown machine equates to a pull up, unless you have more than your body weight on the stack. With a pulldown machine, the focus is down. It is too easy to collapse in the seat and lose core stability. The core is an important part of the pull up. Also, with a pulldown machine, it is too easy to start using your body weight, to get the bar to the chest. With a pull up, the focus is up. Two tips to make them easier. Firstly, keep everything squeezed - bum, tum and legs. Secondly look where you are going - eyes open, head slightly back and site the bar. Will power can get that all important extra rep.
