Early trip this morning and sitting next to me were two people in amazing shape -- no other way to put it. The woman was in a tank top type of shirt that was form fitting...besides her delts/triceps on clear display, you could count at least six abs. The boyfriend (husband?) was pretty much the same...veins running down his arms.
Started chatting -- both were competitive Crossfit athletes and we talked about their training and diet for a while.
1. CF'ers -- at least the competitive ones -- do not train high intensity year 'round. Things are cycled based on when competitions, etc., are coming up.
2. Offseason is a lot more mobility and training for form and technique.
3. Core -- they do a limited amount of direct ab work. They mentioned one exercise (forget the name) done on a Roman chair like apparatus, otherwise, most of their strength training hits the abs.
4. Diet. The Zone...apparently the founders of CF (Glassman?) and several of the people on his staff found the Zone was a perfect balance for their "sport". Five, sometimes six meals a day. More carbs when training gets more intense.
Wondered if they had post CF plans? Both said they probably had three, maybe four years at their current competitive level, but, both already had full time jobs that allowed them to compete. Not pros.
I also asked if they would consider using an overpriced piece of webbing and isometrics as their main training method in hopes of someday being world champions? ...not.
