This Cheap Wine From Walmart Is Ranked as One of the Best in the WorldIf you're one of those people who orders the cheapest glass of wine on the menu because you can't tell the difference (no shame), this news is going to make your day. A $7 bottle of wine sold at Walmart has been ranked as one of the best in the world by Decanter Magazine, which covers wine and spirits. The award-winning red wine is La Moneda Reserva's Malbec, a Chilean wine whose description notes that it has a "deep purple color with violet tints, rounded and velvety tannins, complex plum, fig, and strawberry flavors and excellent length." Time for my political rant of the hour: it is WalMart. With all of the destruction they have wrought and continue to bring to small towns across the US in addition to the offshore (https://www.quora.com/How-is-working-at-Walmart-ISD-team-in-Bangalore) + green card employees displacing US workers in their IT departments and now stores, etc., I loathe spending a dime in WalMart. Home Depot/Lowes...not much better. One of my favorites -- old time hardware stores -- are almost a thing of the past and of course Amazon's putting the nail in the coffin of just about everything else from bookstores to clothing.
We've driven through rural Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, Texas and Louisiana regularly for years and to see small downtown centers dry up and disappear once WalMart hits, I'd have to wonder (to borrow from Waylon Jennings) if Sam Walton would have done it this way...

The only reason Walmart does that shit and gets away with it, is because they can. Every other big company would do exactly the same, if they could.
Eliminating all the competition, making a near monopoly, raking in huge profits, outsourcing to cheap slave labour, while getting the taxpayer to bankroll everything = modern big business 101

Eliminate competition and free markets. Ban religion. Take over the media. Outlaw free thinking. And now the state has control of the profits, what is/isn't said and labor. And we see how well that crap hasn't worked.

Capitalism is far from perfect, but, there's a reason free enterprise has contributed to the greatest burst of innovation in centuries vs. socialist or communist hell holes. The laser, semiconductor, biomed, the internet itself, cell phones, for example, all came out of the US. There's a reason, despite the mud slinging, people want to come here for jobs, raise families, etc., over the other -isms.
You don't see people rushing to Cuba, Venezuela, N. Korea, Russia, etc., to raise a family or start a business.

Well, I'll tell you something else that burns me up about Walmart. There's never anyone on the floor. God help you if you can't find anything. Yet they can afford to hire a greeter and a good-byer. The greeter's only job is to sit at the entrance and say, Hello, welcome to Walmart, with a stupid grin. The good -byer hangs out at the exit and says, Goodbye, thank you for shopping at Walmart, have a nice day. The combined IQ of these two is like a pea rolling around in a box car.

Capitalism is far from perfect, yes, it led to walmart, the company you are moaning about, nothing to do with socialist hell holes at all, not sure why you introduced socialism into it, really can't see what that has to do with walmarts behavior??? Except I suppose that they source most of their goods from a "socialist" country.

and the only reason America has had so many inventions was that it was originally made up of well educated Europeans, but that advantage has been lost over the years, probably due to excessive inbreeding

The UK version is actually Ok as far as that goes, you can usually find someone stacking shelves to help, but you cant find anyone on the tills (checkouts), its all those automated self service things which I hate

Tell a new hire that "Me and John went to the lab" is not proper English and you couldn't imagine the blank look. Or, "They were their, yesterday." (WTF?) And, "We had 15 fiber cable's for the switch." (Junior, there's a difference between plural and possessive...huh?) Oh, current events? If it isn't on Comedy Central or John Oliver, it isn't news. Where is Kabul? When was the Great Depression? Who fought in the Confederate War? Yes, kids, there are graduates of US colleges and universities that don't any of this. (I couldn't imagine them if they were to read the discussion on Wyatt Earp, the Apache Wars, etc., etc., from a couple of weeks ago.) A customer (multi-national) was telling us they'd hired some US grads to build a database designed to process & manage pedabytes worth of data...after four months, they were all gone. Bad work ethic, on their cell phones and no work discipline. They brought in a team of former engineers...youngest 68 or 69...for the project. In three weeks, starting from scratch, they had 70% of the design complete and were already passing traffic. The worst? We were at a restaurant last week and my engineer paid in cash, but, for some reason the register wasn't working. The cashier had absolutely no idea how much change was owed and had to call her manager over for help...he pulled out his cell phone to use the calculator.

Of course, I've seen places where the total IQ of most WalMart shoppers combined wouldn't rise above the low double digit levels. www.peopleofwalmart.com/
