We've been having a lot of discussions on this forum about Kin Shi-Hai Do and isometrics and rope climbing, and what not. And it's as it should be. This is a fitness forum where the free flow of ideas and experiences are encouraged and shared. And I've certainly put my time in "alternative" exercise methods. But, I gotta tell you. At the end of the day, I believe that nothing beats Progressive Resistance as the ultimate muscle-building protocol. Nothing pumps muscle like weights. Nothing burns muscle like resistance bands (of which, THE HOOK rules!), and nothing builds all-round related muscle like bodyweight. I've gone off on all iso regimens, and all KSHD regimens, but I believe my experimental days are over. In all of my experiments, nothing has ever matched PR for muscle hardness and size. From now on I plan to stick with the eternally tried and proven method, the only one, that has ever produced power and bodybuilding champions.

Nothing burns muscle like resistance bands (of which, THE HOOK rules!)... Hi Bruce, Interesting post. So, out of intellectual curiosity, I called the local free clinic and read them your quote and then asked if they had any rebuttal or comments. They said "have your friend go to Boys Town in Nuevo Laredo for an evening...then he can tell us about what burns worse a few days after he gets back..."

Whatever keeps you training, rules.
If you're honest with your maximum intensity in overcoming isometric contractions, you're missing nothing that the iron weight can give in terms of strength/hypertrophy gains.

Now you're going to get Henry all hot and bothered with that photo, he's going to one up it with one his favorite photos, and Pro Boards is going to remove the thread.

No, I don't think so. If I wind down along with summer winding down, I might cut back to a minimalist routine for awhile, or maybe not. I dunno. I feel as though I've entered another phase of my life. I see 70 year olds around town and they look old and decrepit. I am grateful that I can put in the hard workouts that I do. I'm of the feeling now that I am very lucky, and I am obliged to milk it for as many more years as I can.

Ooops. I accidently edited Michael's post instead of quoting it, and deleting much of his valuable thoughts and insights. Forgive me!

Silver, I thought of giving your 30-30-30 isometric protocol a shot, but I don't think it's my cup of tea. You've done great with it and admire you for it, and I know you have inspired others here.

Ooops. I accidently edited Michael's post instead of quoting it, and deleting much of his valuable thoughts and insights. Forgive me! No problem Bruce. I was thinking of trying Silverlooks, Drew Baye's, protocol of 30-30-30 for a 4-6 weeks run in December. I may do it longer because I know it may take some getting use to. The only challenge I may have is my body tends to feel better with movement.

In the 15 years or so that I said goodbye to weights, haven’t missed em. I was sick of Legs and Back Day, Bi’s & Tri’s day etc anyway. The endless fun, challenge & freedom that lies outside the gym is the siren call for me.
Not popular ‘round these here parts but that darn Belt looks to be a lifelong mainstay in my regimen. Makes me feel awesome. Never really liked ISOs either but I stayed practicing with it until something clicked. Wouldn’t do without them now.

Not to push the incredibly ingenious, extremely efficient, versatile, unbelievably reasonably priced Sierra Isometric/Suspension Trainer, but do you think that evenly spaced, numbered loops with comfort hook handles, might be a bit more practical to use for isometrics, as opposed to a $100 28' length of webbing?

I appreciate that Shen thank you. I’m planning to invest in The Hook and your trainer. I want them in my arsenal but for other purposes. I prefer the Belt for ISO progressions. It’s what I’m used to and what I’m proficient with.

It’s what I’m used to and what I’m proficient with. I positively slather with anticipation. If I should be so fortunate to imbue you with The Hook and Trainer, you'd better watch out. Right now, a seatbelt might satisfy your iso workouts, but then you might get Hooked. On a serious note, it's a big sky out there, and this forum is not limited to discussion of solely the greatest exercise equipment ever created in the entire history of physical culture. All modalities of exercise and all products on the market can be freely discussed here.
