Try living here in Kansas. We get our corn from local fields around the outskirts of town.

In rural PA we just got our first box of peaches from a local orchard. 68 second peaches for $15. Last night we got 100 ears of corn in exchange for a peach pie. Life is great in the country. The garden produce is at full swing too.

My wife's got relatives in Kansas -- haven't had corn from their area, but, have had local breads from the local wheat growers/graineries. Good stuff.
Never had peaches north of the Mason-Dixon line, unless north Oklahoma counts, but have heard late summer peaches in Ohio and PA are excellent. (I can tell you south Texas stone peaches don't rate with Georgia or Oklahoma...)

Downtown is up the Street from us and there's an indoor Market, Thursdays and Saturdays there outdoor stands from local Farmers and Bread Bakers, cool! There's a Saturday cooking class that features whats in season and you watch and have some of what they cook up, free grub, brilliant. Downtown - up the street - indoor Market - outdoor stands....

I think he's saying they're "seconds", perhaps too ripe to continue to sell for full price, so are marked down for quick sale to people who want to make pies.

Yep, "seconds" at the orchard are peaches they pick up off the ground. Usually we can't find anything wrong not even a bruise. When she loads up the cooler any seconds that she thinks are bad she replaces and gives us the ones that she thought were bad (bonus peaches). Just when I get my fill of the peaches the apples start.
