Weider was a big-ass businessman and as such he had no morals. I'm pretty sure many successful businessmen and politicians are actually concealed psychopaths.
He had a decent physique in his young years, but had to use Robbie Robinson's torso and arms for his bust. It's an ego thing I suppose.
He was a con man. There was useful information in his magazines, but it was difficult to tell it apart from advertising and the agenda he was trying to push.
Mentzer was an objectivist and as such I wouldn't count him among my peers, because I think objectivism is one of the vilest philosophies out there. But at least he was a rational guy and wasn't trying to sell anything but his own scientifically obtained truth. And I respect him for that. A lot. That can't be said about a gutless quack like Weider.

I don't know if Joe was inspired by Sandow but he didn't really come close to him, though no one else has before or since imo. It depends on what sort of physique you rate but he's the number one for a natural muscular physique as far as I'm concerned

From that era, I'd say Bobby Pandour was pretty impressive as well.

I always look at the Olympia in the same way as pro wrestling: the "winner" is the guy they think will bring in the most money for the company.
I dated a girl who did amateur physique comps. She was pretty naive about the whole thing, but soon learned that to have any chance of placing you have to pay to go on all the posing courses that the promoter sells.

From that era, I'd say Bobby Pandour was pretty impressive as well. Yep, in fact I think Pandour was slightly more impressive for the time than Sandow. Bigger chest (Sandow's was relatively flat) and better overall physique.

Probably better fiction available for free on TV or for a few bucks on Netflix.
