For those who used hanging to help alleviate shoulder pain, did your shoulders hurt more when you started hanging? I watched a video where they said your shoulders would probably hurt more while hanging. I was wondering if you experienced more pain throughtout the day as things remodelled?
Thanks

The extreme stretch of a single arm hang can injure your shoulder . Hence use the opposing arm as a spotter . With 2 arm hangs use your feet to offload some of the hang

I don't remember if hanging made my shoulders hurt, but one of the reasons I started to hang was to avoid or alleviate shoulder pain, so, yeah, my shoulders might have hurt when I started since that was a reason to hang.
Support yourself at first with feet to take some of the load and avoid pain. Then, over time, ease into full, free hang - or not, depending on what is comfortable for you.
Support yourself in whatever way is needed to avoid pain when hanging. "No pain, no gain" mantra is bullshit.
The best, fastest working, fix I found for existing shoulder pain is the Isometric Overhead Doorway Press, done several times throughout the day. Press hard until just before it starts to ache. For shoulder pain, I did it 4 to maybe 7 times per day. IMO, The best door jamb choice is one that is at the height of the heel of your hand, arms straight OH, when your feet are flat on the floor. Once you try this, you'll understand.

Yes, but I got used to it by sending positive images down the neural pathways, past the psychological breaks to the creative center, the subconscious.

Use adjustable straps secured to a pull up bar to combine a full squat with a hang. Hold the static contraction for as long as you can tolerate

I'd always heard you never even knew your shoulders were there once you got to hanging...

Oh. from the title of this thread, I thought it was about another game show, sort of like Dialing for Dollars.

When I first started hanging, my shoulders did hurt, but after a couple of times, they felt a little better, the hanging helped out my back also.

I liked Jeff Cavalier's recommendation to hang first thing in the morning ...... and then several times throughout the day. If you notice, when Jeff hangs, his feet easily reach the floor to relieve some of the BW, if necessary. He also flexes his spine with feet leading and trailing (if I remember the vid correctly). Always do what is comfortable and ease into the stretch.

The benefits of consistently hanging from the bar have been so beneficial to my shoulders.
Yes, it hurt the first few days, but since, over time, nothing but an alleviation of long held pain, added strength, and improved mobility.
Personally, I wouldn’t dream of trying a one arm dead hang, in any form. Not worth the risk, imo.

I have not tried hanging to help my shoulders, but I do hang for grip and a swinging hang for my SI joint. About 15 years ago I did hurt my shoulder from hanging. I did a set of pullups first thing in the morning and at the end I was just hanging to stretch out. I allowed my shoulders to relax to the point where it popped out of the joint a little. I am not sure what happened, but I got a very sharp pain in my shoulder joint and I had problems with my shoulder for 3 or 4 months. I like to hang and think it has benefits, but based on my experience, I would do some mobility work before doing it with cold joints.

...... I would do some mobility work before doing it (dead hang) with cold joints. I did it first thing this morning w/ cold joints - no warmup, no pull up, just gently ease into a hang ..... so, just the opposite of the above. It's the way I always do it. I've never warmed up to hang. Easing into it is my warmup. I didn't do a pullup, just pulled my body from side to side for a little swing and twist. It felt great! I also do not do reps of pull-ups and, fatiguing the joints w/ a bunch of pull-ups and then hanging to stretch? - sounds like not a good idea, so, thanks for sharing. If I do one slow pullup, it is during a dead hang, when I also do some other hang moves if I feel like it. Sometimes I tense and pull myself up a few inches (partial ROM) and hold at spots, which is when I usually do leg raises and such. There's no need to do reps of full ROM pull-ups if I hang.

I pandiculate and then do dead hangs, then hangs from 3-2 fingers until hanging from 1 hand.

Pandiculate? PANDICULATE! Now, cut that out, you Rhodes scholar, you!
Yeah, I stretch a lot, but I don't count that since I don't remember not stretching, even before I began my current exercise journey.
