Roll's book is an inspirational read, going from a self-abusing attorney which included alcohol and drugs --who had everything going for him -- to a clean and lean endurance athlete. I've got his cookbook The Plant Power Way and make one of the meals, "Tofu Scramble" for Sunday breakfast regularly.

I like Tofu and I like Tofu Scramble. Here in Canada is a fast food place called A&W, it different than the American chain...
...and yesterday I had their Beyond Meat burger and it looked just like the photo (see website link). What surprised me was about 5 people in front of me at the counter all ordered the Beyond Meat burger, amazingly 2 people behind us also ordered the same. I could just be that location, it was downtown in an old historic building, the place was modern renovated inside.

My son met the CEO/founder of Beyond Meat at a class and after giving the samples a try, called encouraged us to give it a shot. I'll have to say "not too bad", but, you're not saving anything in calories, and, they're higher in iron and fat than beef.
They're also pricey...$5.99/lb vs. $6 for 'organic' beef.
Plus, with all of the criticism the beef industry gets for water consumption by cattle, I've read the water and food processing required to make vegetable protein isolates like pea protein along with the sheer number of peas is also pretty high.
Didn't know A&W sold off its Canadian biz in the 90s...interesting.

One Vegan restaurant was selling Beyond Beef burgers for $17 with a small organic soup and across the road a restaurant advertised grass fed beef burger for the same price.
The Vegan thing is a big trend here and the Vegan restaurant are expensive for what you get. I gave up being Vegan coz I just wanted to eat normal. Like have a real sausage or beef burger or real eggs.

The Vegan thing is a big trend here and the Vegan restaurant are expensive for what you get. I gave up being Vegan coz I just wanted to eat normal. Like have a real sausage or beef burger or real eggs. Vegan's huge in parts of the US...while in the LA area for five or six days a couple of weeks ago we hit a couple of restaurants. One had some incredible meals and being a few blocks west of Hollywood as a topper had a lot of "beautiful"people -- mostly female -- out wanting to be seen, driving cars I'd imagine were worth my house and then some. And here I was walking around in my cargo shorts, The Murph 2016 shirt, "Goldberg" haircut and beard and mashed up top siders from who knows when. Needless to say, they probably figured I was from out of town...should have worn my Ropers and boot cuts,  . |

I eat meat in moderation, I'm not like some kind of bodybuilder gorging himself with a shit load of food, big bodybuilders are just as bad as obese over-eaters. I had a book "Scrawny to Brawny", haha what a joke, a pound of meat with each meal, bodybuilding is bullshit with over consumption of food and supplements. Nobody needs to be big like some comic book superhero.

One woman was grossly obese and criticised my wife for cutting back on egg yolks
"They are the babies" she proclaimed........when not even asked for her opinion
They rail against meat, but they are so desperate for meat that they buy meat flavored products
If they ate a steak, they would probably have an orgasm

I know a lot of Vegans and Vegetarians but the ones I know are not like what you have experienced billfish, they are normal people like anybody else. I continue to eat Vegan/Vegetarian coz it's really good, love Indian and Middle East meals. Middle East tends to have some lamb which I like but it's not like big slabs of it. Afghani food is awesome, love their type of special rice.

I'd tried to "eat on" muscle at one time...the magazines, books and even peers in the bb'ing circles all claimed stupid amounts of food are absolutely critical to putting on "muscle". And yes, the supplements and powders. Even alleged gurus like Gironda had lied his ass off regarding the need for hundreds of dessicated liver tabs, RNA tablets and of course that fatty garbage he sold from Rheo Blair...never mind Vince was strongly suspected of being a juicer, members of his gym juiced and Rheo was allegedly involved in steroids. Just my opinion, but, bodybuilding is a huge lie with its roots starting with the scams and lies of the age of "Physical Culture". Strength historians including the late Terry Todd, David Gentle, etc., have all confirmed these people lifted but sold pamphlets claiming muscle contraction exercises and cals as the source of their strength since printing a few pages with a little script and pics were a dirt cheap way to make a lot of money vs. the expense of shipping weights across country. Anyone remember Pumping Iron pointing to the roots of Physical Culture in the bath houses of Europe and the US? How about the book Little Big Men discussing the comic book fascination of so many bb'ers? Henry - I do like your new hair style. What are you using? |

We have Rib-Fest this month and usually the ALA are there but they are not pushy or out, just offering info and Vegan food samples, the Vegan fast food truck is usually at every downtown city park event. Maybe Canadian Vegan/Vegetarians arn't so pushy and more laid-back unlike them Christian types on Transformetics hang-outs or them Atlas students who when they find out I lift weights say "what kind of Atlas man are you?" and send you to Coventry. |
