Patrick is well versed in the light dumbbell training. Very informative interview on the light dumbbell training system.

I saw that article on LQ some time ago. Did Bolton ever get the revised course or the new website going?

Good interview to refresh our memory. Factually, if we use voluntary co-contraction (co-tension) of muscle antagonists, we do not need light weights. If we apply the same principles of training, we will get similar results.

Did not train with this protocol for a longer time now. What you wil get is a fairly lean look, exactly as Dave said. If you want to look big and swole, this is not the right protocol.

Just my humble opinion these days: you will probably get bigger with weights or other protocols, but, not a whole lot. Your genetics are only going to go so far, no matter what you use. Squats, deadlifts and bench presses will probably add a little more size, but, look at natural bodybuilders or guys like Robert Cheek, a 'vegan' bb'er. Not a whole lot of size or mass on them vs. Bolton. A lot of us have been fooled or lied to regarding putting on more "size" over the years by the muscle "magazines" (think they were recently -- correctly labled -- advertising publications by a federal group responsible for the oversite of magazines, etc.). You'd consume bulking and muscle gain powders and all that crapola did was empty wallets and put on fat. The old time lifters and so many claimed eat big and then "cut" down for "mass" -- but, you'd end up looking the same. (And how many of those guys were juicing...) Another are all of those stupid programs...they all use the same exercises for the most part and either the standard "X" number of sets/reps with 4 sets of benches, 4 sets of flies, or, a more HD-centric approach. Who ended up looking like Arnold? Lee Haney? following all of the spin...? And I still believe this holds true decades after Jones wrote it: arthurjonesexercise.com/First_Half/68.PDF

Thanks Potatohead! TexasRanger I completely agree! Good observation and comparision between Bolton and Robert Cheek. I have a very thin frame (bone wise), I will never ever get "big" and lets be honest, it is pretty meaningless anyway. I still like the protocol, but after 2 years, it bored me a little and I felt I still had some weakness in some areas that should be ironed out. Plus, I missed bodyweight training. Nothing spectacular but thats how I looked :
