My late uncle never watched tv and would rather live life and always made fun of people who watched for hours on end. He called it something like "the idiot box" or something close to that. I first heard him say that around 1970. How things stay the same.

I manage a call center with about 30 staff. Most of them are under 30. Once a month we play a game as a team building exercise. It's like Jeopardy, and I usually pick the questions and act as the game show host. The stupidity is alarming. I don't mean intelligence, I mean the lack of historical knowledge of any sort beyond the last few years. Many of them can't even recall facts from their OWN generation that I know. I'm starting to think there is something really going on, that entire generations are being made to somehow not retain anything beyond the most recent and superficial. Every month it's the same people who generally win, those aged 35 or older. I'm not asking questions stuck in the past, some of these are very recent, and the idea the young mind should be sharper is totally destroyed by what is easily observed. What are they good at now? Watching stupid 10 second clips on TikTok and Instagram. This is conditioning the mind to only work in that time frame. This also accounts for the fact the only movies that seem to be a big hit now are superhero movies, which are just one-liners and a series of individual fight scenes tied together. Imagine a 20 year old sitting through JAWS today, or Once Upon a Time in America, or the Deerhunter, some of the greatest movies of the modern era. They would be incapable, it would kill them. When I was 20 I watched Godfather and Godfather II back to back. It was story-telling, and the ability to understand it. Most 50 year olds recognize the songs of Frank Sinatra, though he wasn't of our generation. The modern movement is to erase everything that came before, to devalue it. Then it can be replaced by garbage, and the dumb slaves will eat it up because like a dog, if it's hungry enough it will even eat shit.
