Well hopefully a dental emergency like getting teeth knocked out gets a person in to see a dentist right away ? Here in the USA there seems to be plenty of dentists, but unfortunately too many of them are crooks that look to pad the bill at any opportunity, real or imagined.

Another factor is how strong his bond is with his drinking buddies. Peer pressure at that age, is very strong, and if getting thoroughly smashed is a regular part of his lifestyle, it makes him vulnerable to bad “ group think” decisions. Sometimes you need to let go of those “ friends” who can only steer you wrong, which is not always easy to do. Hopefully he can sort things out. He’s still young. At 20, I had been in the Air Force for 2 years already and stationed in England for 3 months.... going into the USAF then was the best move I ever made When I went home on leave, I was bored in about 3 days, same crap I left to get away from Guys still hanging out in the bar and doing little else In this case with these young guys, I suspect boredom may play a role That's why I suggested the service....it was good for me and good to me I had fun, traveled and had adventure and 2 years after getting out of the Air Force joined the Navy.... I was laid off from construction and bored and was going to sign for my unemployment check and passed a Navy recruiting office while entering the building. I dumped my unemployment book in the trash, walked into the Navy office and joined the Navy for 2 years, which was good as well...homeported in San Diego.... sunshine..... the beach.... lots of girls and better friends than back home and as a bonus I met my future wife 2 months before getting out After getting out of the Navy I stayed in CA and worked as a oil refinery roustabout...good job, good pay, out in the sunshine I never regretted going into the USAF or the USN....saw a lot, did a lot and made some good friends who I still stay in touch with all these years later Plus I got to do some cool shit while in the service Change is good.....and radical changes bring radical results

I built rocket stoves in 3rd world countries thru the auspices of an NGO organization. Does that count the same towards personal development & growth?

I personally use the term when people asked me how i did so well for myself "I just grew up" and I suppose at the core that's all it was. I don't know if you can take any advice out of that but I'd be happy if it at least gave you some some hope that it can and USUALLY gets better. Wow...well done lardy Funny how we fast we grow up when we have to Thank you

There's actually loads of dentists, but they only have to sign up a certain number of patients under NHS. I moved town two years ago and have applied to every dentist in about a fifty mile radius and not got one yet. Hope this helps, Whiffet m8.

Sorry to hear this. Maybe his troubles with the law including possible prison will set him straight.
Sometimes sons do stupid things to get their mother's attention. He might think he is "losing her to you" and this is his way of making sure he is still in the spotlight and within her focus. Sounds crazy but I have seen it.

So many people would collect and then have to find another hard labor job that paid off the books in an attempt to pay their bills and survive. The unemployment line was embarrassing and totally sucked... I remember when working for the tree service we'd sometimes have to drive people over during the day to sign for their check if they were scheduled. So many stupid young people these days have no clue what kind of crap we had to go through back then, when you hear them talk it's as if they think that back then we were able to basically buy a house from out of a gum ball machine, and the overall cost of living was so low that minimum wage was the ticket to the middle class...

I'm canadian. We're weird like that about humanitarian service & a global worldview. I'm an expat living in Egypt married to an egyptian that I met in NYC during my stay in Brownsville with that black family I posted about before in this forum.
