I think this was one of the things Bruce heard a section of a documentary mention once or maybe someone else read something in a chain email. We spent many days arguing whether posh people were trying to do German accents.
Frankly I'm becoming more a fan of the written word.

I think this was one of the things Bruce heard a section of a documentary mention once or maybe someone else read something in a chain email. We spent many days arguing whether posh people were trying to do German accents. Frankly I'm becoming more a fan of the written word. Shen had seen a documentary that mentioned the accents of the early settlers in America that came from Britain. He said that according to the documentary that these people all had what would nowadays sound like an American accent and that was the British accent at the time and that the accent of British people back in the British Isles have changed since then into the various regional accents we have now. I told him that he must have misheard what they said in the documentary and that he should watch it again but he said that he knew what he had heard. The topic later drifted into talking about the posh people's accent (RP) and somebody claimed it was based on German which it clearly isn't.

....... Frankly I'm becoming more a fan of the written word. Oh, like Sanskrit? Interesting. I guess that's why some written song lyrics don't sound right - in rhythm time and/or with common pronunciation - if sung as one would speak the individual words.

It's why a lot of old poems don't quite rhyme, it's not because the poets were shit
