This file below specifically addresses the effect of bromelain on autophagy & clarifies the role of the AMPK-autophagy signaling pathway in the bromelain-mediated protective effect against lipid metabolism deregulation, particularly in the context of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (for all u weekend alcoholics!). It also highlights how bromelain induces autophagy, increases the expression of autophagy-related proteins, and activates the autophagy pathway. Research also indicates that bromelain induces autophagy in various cells, including hepatocytes and colorectal cancer cells, leading to the activation of the autophagy pathway and the formation of autophagosomes and lysosomes. So, it's a prophylactic against cancers as well as accelerating the process of autophagy which normally occurs during prolonged fasts but bromelain brings u into autophagy quicker. Keep it simple and just drink a great cup of coffee every morning, strong and not ruined with cream or sugar.

I take mega-doses of Vitamin C and use an electrolyte mix due to the hot temperature environment where I live and the sweating I do because of my outdoor workouts. I have experimented with various supplements over the years and find them to be a waste of money and time.

I like simplicity as well but my lab experience has broadened my knowledge beyond exercise physiology & diet. Exercise is merely a stimulus. Phosphorylation is the cornerstone of human biochemistry. The post was intended as an FYI & to demonstrate its interesting effects on autophagy.
Autophagy is a vital process that becomes impaired with advancing age. Especially those in their mid to late 60s. In fact, autophagy is one of the few pathways that directly influences longevity & homeostasis. It's importance was significant enough to give Yoshinori Ohsumi the Nobel Prize in 2016 for Physiology or Medicine for his discoveries of mechanisms for autophagy.
Spermidine is the only known substance that repairs the Autophagic System where its order of importance is only tertiary to that of the Krebs Cycle or Electron Transport Chain.
So, I'll have my strong cup of joe in the morning along with a hit of Bromelain to accelerate & accentuate my autophagy during my 36 hour fasts.
Why do I do 36 hour fasts & add supplements to improve autophagy? To increase my vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF), which is a protein that plays a crucial role in the formation of new blood vessels. Fasting has been shown to affect VEGF levels, leading to increased production and changes in vessel permeability. Fasting also affects Heart Rate Variability (HRV) which is a variation in the time interval between heartbeats. It is a measure of the autonomic nervous system and considered an excellent metric for physical health.
I've already had a stroke & heart attack. I don't need another dose of either if I can avoid it. Thankyouverymuch!

I’m rethinking my supplement usage and focusing more on getting my nutrients from food and not allowing marketing to convince me I “ need” what they are selling.
