" It was a black rat. They are a nicer looking than the more common brown rats." No need to stereotype the rats sir, all rats matter. ;)) :insert "Budum Tish" meme here

Mr Spud head, this was no pet. One of the cats bought a dead one home exactly like it a few days ago. It was a black rat. They are a nicer looking than the more common brown rats. Black rats are known for their climbing ability and this one easily climbed up an Indonesian wood carving we have propped against a wall, jumped from that onto the Venetian blind string and up to the top of the Venetian blind in the blink of an eye. It's obviously a pretty smart rat that it remembered how it had got away from the cats by climbing up onto the same blind the day before. www.rejectrats.com/difference-between-black-rats-and-brown-rats/My old man tried to stop the last colony of black rats in the UK from being exterminated, they were living on the Shiant islands and were to be culled to support a local bird population. He wrote to the RSPB but of course they weren't interested so in desparation he wrote to a magazine for people who kept pet rats. They wrote back to him asking if he could write an article from the perspective of a "rat loving local" and he was too embarrassed to continue.

I've had this problem before so many times, I have a female cat who wanted to practice her mothering skills on me, she wouldn't kill it until I sat down and watched her do it, as soon as I left she would lose interest, but when I spent 20 mins watching her she showed me how to kill a rat , it's pretty common if you have female cats apparently but if you have a male cat and it isn't killing them you are probably over feeding them. Edit: Forgot to add if it's a huge aggressive rat, kill it if you have a chance because they can do some serious damage to cats and dogs... I have a Staffordshire Bull terrier and I've seen a rat fighting back and caused her some damage, I split it in half with a spade in the end.

I happened to look out the window one day and caught one of my cats chasing pell mell after a groundhog! It was incredible! She chased it out of the yard even though she is about 2/3 the size of the groundhog, he was running for his life! I never saw a cat do that before. She's a keeper!

We have a male and a female. I'm pretty sure it was the female that brought in the live rat as it was her that brought in a dead rat a few days before.
When we lived in Ibiza a feral male cat moved in with us and our other cats. He quickly made himself the boss of the cats in our house. I saw him attack a dog once that had come onto our veranda looking for the cat food. The cat hid until the dog was alongside him and then jumped onto the dog's back. The dog yelped and ran off into the garden and then stood there looking back at the cat who was strutting along the top of the veranda wall very pleased with himself. I then remembered that I had had heard a dog yelp just like it a day or two before so obviously the cat had attacked the dog that time as well.

I would need to search through my book, "The Falcon - John Tanner", but I think I recall he said that a bobcat was the most fierce animal that he ever killed bare handed and was a challenge for any man. It's been a while since I read it. Maybe i need to read it again. It is a wonderful and rare, factual, common life account of Ojibway indian life in early North America.

Bobcats don't mess around more so when they got rabies.

When my Dad was a teenager living in New Hampshire, there was trouble with a bobcat killing chickens and such, my Dad set out to kill the bobcat with a .22 rifle. On the trip out he ran into an oldtimer and told him what he was up to, the old guy opened up his shirt and showed him the mass of long scars on his chest and stomach, he said this happened after he shot a bobcat with a .22. That put an end to my Dad's hunting trip. Bring plenty of firepower for bobcats...

While I was watching that video, I was expecting something like that to happen to the husband. He could have lost his face.
I'm guessing the bobcat's lethargy was due to the rabies.

One afternoon, I took the dog out for a walk and he lunged at a raccoon about 10 feet away. I held him back and we stood there looking at it, but it didn't do anything or run off as they always do. It just sat there looking back. I went inside and called the DNR. They said it probably had rabies and I should shoot it.
