Neither. Paul Anderson & Doug Hepburn were champion lifters from the 1950s. Both were natural heavyweights who lived well into their 60s. Anderson died at 61 of Brights Disease that he had struggled with since childhood. Left ventricle hypertrophy is a common side effect of long term steroid use. Arnold had valve replacement or a bypass in 1997 due to his documented steroid use most likely. Arnold stated it was due to a congenital defect. MEH? Oh ok, learned something, thanks. I thought I heard it was from heavy lifting, that's why I asked. Makes no sense for Arnold to lie, his steroid use was pretty much known. U can still spin a fact! Hypertrophy is ur body's way of adapting to heavy stress. U can lift &/or be heavy at a young age but not for a lifetime either. Something is going to eventually give. U merely try to keep it together as u get older. Jón Páll Sigmarsson is a prime lesson as he died shy of his 33rd birthday. He dominated strongman events for a decade & broke records. He died of a ruptured aorta while training at the gym. He did have medical treatment for heart problems a year prior to his death. He allegedly had a congenital heart defect which was exacerbated by heavy steroid use too. Eugen Sandow died at 59 of an aneurysm pushing his car out of a ditch. George Barker Windship a famous doctor & entrepreneur during the 19th century died at 42 of a massive stroke while heavy deadlifting. Eugene Sandow did his famous strongman acts yet decidedly advised against heavy training. He wrote plenty of books about using lighter resistance.

Well known in bodybuilding circles but by the time of his surgery he had been involved in politics for several years so probably wanted to down play the steroids a bit.

Wanted to bump this thread up because I liked a post by Bruv with the John Meadows videos. I want to rewatch them later, plus there were other interesting post on here to me.

I still like some of the exercises I've seen in videos with him. Such a nice guy.
