the smaller balls take up zero space- you can easily deflate it when not using it - you blow them up using a straw

This guy has some great physio advice on his channel. He says the way most people do them takes work away from the glutes, hamstrings and abs. He seems to only recommend ball squats the way he shows them and only for people that don't have enough thoracic extension.
