The Taliban play rough though.

Opium and heroin production went down when the Taliban were in power before the invasion but it went up after the invasion. The Taliban also outlawed boy fucking but that was ignored after the Taliban were booted out and the US, UK and allies, allied themselves with the boy fucking warlords. I feel so proud to belong to a country that allied themselves with a bunch of boy fucking, heroin producers.

I feel so proud to belong to a country that allied themselves with a bunch of boy fucking, heroin producers. Child molestation and illegal drugs are world-wide industries. Several religious orders have sordid child-sex and violence histories in our countries. The main supply of drugs has always been from the upper echelons, outwardly respectable society icons either the suppliers, or turning a blind eye to the importation of heroin and the big money thereof. One of the main suppliers in one of our main cities was a top criminal lawyer. As far as the Taliban are concerned, it proves once again that America has failed to change a country's govt/regime for the better, and now that the troops are leaving (except for those sent to protect Americans and other-country nationals leaving) the Taliban are making fast inroads into a country largely governed by corrupt and weak govts, propped up by American military and "business" interests.

Right on Macky!
"... proves once again that America has failed to change a country's govt/regime for the better..." goes hand in hand with the resulting "...weak govts, propped up by American military and "business" interests."
If the country-folk there do not enforce the change, then it will ultimately fail - like it is doing now.
Also, who wants it more; the Taliban or the civilians there? Those who talk versus those who do.

Promote internal factions and create discontent between them so they kill one another. Muslims are good at that. Covertly support the factions and do what can be done to profit from these faction conflicts.

I remember Tony Blair (the British PM at the time of the invasion. Labour party) and his wife made lots of comments saying they were going to free the Afghani women from having to wear face and head coverings. You can find these online. It didn't take them long after the invasion to realise that they were in no position to try and change anything in Afghanistan and they soon shut up about it.
I think you will be hard pressed to find a Labour party MP that will openly say they want to do away with face covering for UK muslim women, let alone for muslim women in other countries these days.

Over there family and tribe matter much more to most people than national government.

Promote internal factions and create discontent between them so they kill one another. Muslims are good at that. Covertly support the factions and do what can be done to profit from these faction conflicts. Yes the CIA on behalf of American corporate interests have been doing exactly that since 1947 in the Middle East, South America and other countries of "financial interest". The whole invasion thing in the Middle East was about corporate plundering and the protection of the American dollar as the default reserve currency of the world. Oil came into it in a big way, and Afghan territory had to be secured for strategic military reasons (and the huge profits from drugs which are a major global industry, both illegal and "legal"). The prime problem for America is that it doesn't learn from its mistakes, and continues to treat insurgent-infiltrated countries as it would China or Russia, where large-scale actions against uniformed enemies are undertaken with huge firepower and co-ordinated frontline aggression. America is good at that sort of thing. But the only time since WW2 that that worked was in the Gulf War, but still the US doesn't learn from its experience in Vietnam, and Bush sends the troops into Iraq to get rid of Hussein primarily, using the shock of 9/11 and asinine (that many people believed) WMD as excuses. Shortly after there were 19 oil companies with contracts to extract oil from Iraq, and the inherent corruption of puppet govts under the American military umbrella continued, the reserve currency of the American dollar now intact. Mass firepower worked initially in Afghanistan and Iraq, but still the "insurgents" remained, fighting a guerilla-type warfare that Vietnam never taught the American military to cope with, in round terms. The US simply doesn't understand that imposing its will on what it fondly imagines to be its own political and religious beliefs (on the surface) don't work on countries where the "enemy" doesn't wear uniforms to any extent, wants/needs its own country back from corrupt "western-style" administrations overseen by yet another "colonial power", and will continue to be prepared to take massive casualties until the objective is gained, fighting a guerilla war against superior firepower that eventually demoralizes and wears out its opponent. There are many issues to the above, but essentially the US thinks it can go into these several countries like Vietnam and the Middle East where it has no idea whatsoever of the local cultural traditions and history, and completely ignores them, blast the bush with huge firepower that also kills large numbers of civilians, install a puppet govt in the fond hope that they can then leave and "normal" conditions will prevail with said new govt organized into what the US military fondly hopes is a replica of itself, with American (and others) corporate plundering of the land and its products to prop up a country who consumes a quarter of the worlds primary resources while having less that 5% of the global population. And time after time this has simply not worked, and the US has found itself embroiled in long-running wars such as Vietnam and Afghanistan until finally the American public get sick of it all and start to apply pressure to "bring the troops home" when said troops should never have been there in the first place, EXCEPT for corporate power that runs the US govt pressing for invasion BECAUSE IT'S A GREAT MONEY EARNER FOR THE PTB (WEAPONRY) AND PRODUCTS LIKE DRUGS AND OIL. Your (and my) PTB's are our greatest enemies, and the bulk of The People don't know it, or don't believe it. The Moneymen wield the stick, and Patriots of all colours pay for the PTB's profits with their blood. Now the US-trained Taliban are taking back their country and before long, they certainly will resort to the old industry when they start to run out of cash due to trade embargoes etc. In the meantime, the US, after years of bloodshed that also brought enormous profits to the American arms and related industries, are now leaving after thousands of military deaths, and possibly millions of civilian casualties, yet another demonstration that resolute under-resourced fighters can still win over an enemy with serious advantages in firepower and weaponry, and with air cover as well. Another defeat to chalk up for America and its allies. I'm sorry to say that NZ is among them. It's a terrible disgrace.

I note Biden is now getting heat for the pullout in Afghanistan, as though it was all his fault. What a laugh ! The Right news are lambasting Biden left right and centre totally ignoring Trump's Feb 2020 deal with the Taliban which allowed them a year and a half to tool up and consolidate for the final push.
Poor old prez is trying to explain how the Taliban took the US by surprise re the speed which it took back "their" country.
Who did it really take by surprise ? Where was the intel input via satellite photos etc and on the ground ? 18 months to find out how the Taliban were acting, training, compiling hardware, guns etc.
Then suddenly the US is taken by surprise ?
I'll tell you who was responsible (apart from the moneymakers supplying the ammo etc). The entire American military top brass should be sacked and/or reduced in rank to shithouse corporals.
They wouldn't know how to combat a guerilla war if they fell over one. Their promotions came from how many senior officers they can lick their boots on any one day. They failed in Vietnam and they failed again in Afghanistan. They had 20 years and plenty of back history to work out how to deal with resolute fighters who are NOT swayed by money and "careers", and who are pretty good at guerilla warfare. They have to be, because that's all they've got.
But no, the Americans carried on doing what they always did to win against uniformed similarly-equipped armies, and trained the Afghans the very same way. Supplied them with everything they thought the Afghans needed re the same as the US army.
And when the shit hit the fan the Afghans wilted and some even joined the Taliban. Once again proving that America and its allies (including NZ) simply can't just virtually invade a country, train the Friendlies, then fuck off out of it and leave them to it.
American military history, especially in Vietnam, is rife with solitary competent officers getting into trouble with their ring-knocking superiors for going slightly outside asinine official military doctrine, even when the results were spectacular.
Now the media is focusing on the prez who's been in office for five minutes, over what amounts to 20 years of military incompetence, where otherwise good American soldiers at the front end paid the price for their Top Brass' idiocy, and the MoneyMen's desire to keep something going that makes them ever more richer.

Yes and guess who the most vocal of the Biden critics are. The right wingers. Dishonest bastards.
That's the sort of thing I meant in previous posts of mine about the damage Trump has done around the world. Abused his European allies, loved Putin, abandoned the Kurds to Turkish genocide.
