I had to stop deadlifting as no matter how careful I was, I’d hurt my back. Heaviest thing I do now is 40 kilos added on dips. Another reason I stopped chasing heavier weights when I realised it made no difference to my muscle size. Or to put it another way, I realised I could get to same result using lighter weights. That said, some of the bodyweight stuff I do is challenging. That happens to a lot of people Whiffet. One thing that can let you still do it and get a lot of the benefits is to do a rack pull or basically pull it from just under your knee cap. For many people a trap or hex bar can work too as well as dumbbell dead lifts. But there is no exercise one HAS to do for results. That is often said about the three powerlifts. Many people F themselves up by the relentless pursuit of those three. I personally like doing the deadlift with bands now for some reason. It feels better on my lower back now. I'm not pulling from the floor now either, and could care less if I ever do again. I'm not a competitive powerlifter so its no issue. I'm pulling with my plates about 4 inches off the ground now. I may lower it a notch in time but I don't have to to get the results I want. My upper back is so much thicker now from the rack pulls. Some recent lifts.

like someone said above, I can't stand the way Cavalier looks either. I just can't put my finger on it. Like Dr. Ken said, he looks like a bunch of bodyparts. He doesn't look strong to me although he may be.

Whether you like how Jeff Cavaliere looks or not, you got to give him credit for having his fitness vision and training hard to achieve and maintain it. That's what it's all about. Identifying our fitness vision, then doing the hard work to achieve and maintain it.
To do so requires four components that I once discussed at my blog: desire, discipline, patience and perseverance. Desire is easy while the other three are progressively harder and more challenging.
Kudos to Jeff and his sidelkick. Let's call Jeff and Jesse the dynamic duo Batman and Robin of the popular fitness world. I believe Jeff's YouTube channel has almost 12 million subscribers and almost two billion views. Those numbers are mind-boggling.

I don't care how anyone looks. It's not who they are.
Using no workout as workout. Having no training as training. Using no requirement as requirement. Having no goal as goal.
I'm not a competitor, nor am I paid to exercise, so I just do what I enjoy, what feels good and leaves me pleasantly tired, usually everyday unless I overindulged in the pleasure of exercise the day before.

Although I don't care how someone looks when it comes to information I really don't see anything wrong with the way he looks. And I have learned and used a few exercises I learned from him. I'm not the strongest but I have no challenges working all day. Do You mind linking that blog?

Have You ever had a time after You accomplished a goal and didn't know what goal would be Your next? I believe most of Your goals are performance based? What if someone doesn't have a performance based goal? The reason I ask is I always had a hard time making goal if they weren't weightloss or waist size based.

I believe most of Your goals are performance based? What if someone doesn't have a performance based goal? The reason I ask is I always had a hard time making goal if they weren't weightloss or waist size based. Michael, my experience is that I come up short with many of my performance-based fitness goals but have fun trying. Yes, I've experienced not knowing what my next goals will be and actually went through a period, currently in progress where I don't have detailed goals like I did when you and I were sharing training journals. What I discovered is that once the detailed goals stopped so did my peak conditioning. I'm nowhere near where I was a year ago and while I'm OK with that, I have pleasant memories one year ago being in closer to my peak conditioning and I liked it. Not that it made me any better of a person but, for me, there's something about being in upper-percentile cardiovascular conditioning; I like it. But, this works for me and what works for you and others is different and that's OK for all of us. What matters is that we show up and give it an honest effort and enjoy the fruits of that effort that makes us probably in the top 10 percent compared to our peers. Fitness, health and wellness is the name of the game it's just that we go about it differently and have different benchmarks of where we are in relation to that fitness, health and wellness.

I don't hate how he looks either, i just don't like his physique though I respect how in shape he has got himself. I do get fed up with seeing his click bait style You Tube titles telling us how this exercise is killing our gains... hahaha.

I agree, I rarely deadlift from the floor and regularly do partials from above the knees (occasionally below). I mostly use a trap bar and as I have been focussing on traps for quite a while now I do a lot of timed holds, pretty much daily for a total of 5 minutes. The point is though, that you can get a lot of thecbenefits of deadlifts without ever 'deadlifting'.
