I'm posting this just in case anyone is interested. I've been thinking about different forms of cardio besides running. As soon as I stopped running my planter fasia went away, plus past problems with both MCLs has made it a challenge. Al Ciampa always will have my respect. www.strongfirst.com/how-to-ruck/

I didn’t watch the video, but I’ve done a lot of weight vest walking.
I keep it simple. Put the vest on and walk. 😂. I use 50 lbs, and generally just go walk for about an hour.
I’ll throw in some body weight squats etc too.

It's not a video, it's an article. I know it's simple. But Al talks about things like shoes and other things. Honestly I really don't have hours for walking or exercise. My jobs, circuits, supersets, complexes, etc... give me plenty of cardio. Definitely more usable for my everyday life which most will never experience. I was talking to my son who is a Marine about rucking. Just curious.

Should have said I didn’t click on the link..
Michael, I enjoy weighted walks. I have the time, so like to get out weekly. I look at it as an overall well-being exercise. Gets me out in nature.

I agree it is an overall well-being exercise and I love being outside. You're very lucky to be able to do that. I kind of do weighted walking when dragging brush or carrying logs all day, . But honestly, it can be painful because when You're working You don't realize we tend to do things on one side more than the other. Walking, weighted walking, or Heavy Hands would be a much better option for well-being. Just a 30-minute leisure walk with the Misses sometimes feels good.

A footstool, TV & bare feet. 5 minute rounds/1m rest Intervals. 6-8 rounds total. Alternate the lead foot at the start of each new round. Land on the ball of the foot gently. Rapidity not required but rhythm & cadence are paramount. You'll be sweating profusely after 30m of doing this in a 25c room. Guaranteed. "A skips" are an effective decent method of exercise in lieu of jogging for aerobic roadwork too. ==================================== It’s Time to Skip Your Workout! Why barefoot? Are you outside? I mentioned a TV too which should be contrued as an inference. TV's are generally located INSIDE as a rule. As for barefootin it, there's a trend of running barefoot or running in shoes that resemble bare feet. The understanding here is ur not suppose to strike with ur heel. Wearing Shoes/sneakers encourage this. I land on the balls of my bare feet during step ups. I'm more sensitive to foot placement & striking. This method promotes bone density too. Personally, I wake up in the morning, scratch my ass, turn on the TV & immediately perform step ups as the 1st order of business before anything else.

MBS, what do You use for Your weighted walks? Do You use a ruck, backpack, or weighted vest? Also, what would Your suggestion be if one wanted to use weights for walking and making pushups harder? What I'm trying to say, is which would be better for both (walking and pushups) a ruck, backpack, or weighted vest? Years ago Whiffet had on his blog about putting towels in a backpack to hold the weights still for pushups. This worked great for pushups but, , someone threw my backpack away.

Michael, I use this: 50 lb vest. 20 2.5lb removable weights. As far as “ how to make it more challenging “, I think intuitively once you put the vest on, you’ll figure it out. This vest is balanced well, and you can change the weights as needed.

Michael, I to have a V Max 50 lb weight vest, thank you again MBS for suggesting it to me, it’s great, it’s worth the money, I’m walking with just 30 lbs right now , because it’s been a while since I used it, I also walk with some HeavyHands I got about 20 yrs ago, walking with those are a great workout also, Dan John is a big fan of rucking also.

This thread got my interest as I had an old Army rucksack years ago and used to go for walks with it. I picked up a bag of sand from a local lumberyard which weighed about 50lbs if I remember correctly . It was a great workout but the ruck had no waist strap or chest strap so it was awkward to walk in as it would bounce off my lower back . Just last week I got an Army surplus rucksack on ebay and it is great.....it is a "MOLLE" pack with nice wide shoulder straps and a comfortable waist belt Took it out for a test run this AM with one of my hurricane season sandbags in it, the sandbag weighs about 30lbs and it was very comfortable I didn't push it as it is my first time going out with it and I only went about a mile. I really felt it in my legs and glutes so decided to be smart and not overdue it The best part of it is that I got it for free....it came missing a couple of non-essential buckles. It was only after I contacted the seller about them that I realized that I didn't need them to set up the ruck and frame. The seller couldn't find the buckles and told me to keep the ruck and refunded my money ! Does it get any better than that ?

Nice Billfish! They always say, " If it's free it's for me", . Being that I have some time off in December, I'll be trying some rucking out.
