I'm friends with the little people on my block. I don't know why, but they're drawn to me. For one thing, I allow them to play in our back yard, which is the nicest and most spacious back yard on the block. Next door there is a 12 year old girl (one of the most beautiful little girls I've ever seen), and her cutie pie little 9 year old sister. Next to them is another little cutie pie 9 year old and her 13 year old brother. When she was a toddler he used to take her for rides up and down the sidewalk in their little electric car.
Anyway, they are always coming over to ask me to go on a bike ride with them. Yesterday I had mowed the lawn and had just finished dinner when cutie pie 9 year old and her brother showed up asking me to go on a bike ride. I was done for the day and didn't really want to go, but then she stuck out her pouty lower lip, and how could I refuse? I knocked on our neighbor's door to see if beautiful 12 year old wanted to go (her younger sister is away) and was told she is in the shower. So, I said ok and went to get my bike. Suddenly 12 year old appeared on her porch dripping wet with a towel wrapped around her saying, "Wait for me. Wait for me. I have to get dressed."
So, it ended up with five of us (another of their friend's). These kids take off like bullets and have wind and energy to spare. If I were by myself, I would be leisurely cruising along, but when I'm riding with these kids, I have to pour on the steam to keep up. We do this a couple or a few times a week, so I have no choice but to perform High Intensity Aerobics with my trainers.

Flaunt your youth while showcasing your yesteryear skills by popping a wheely when bicycling with the little girls.

Those kids are doing that stuff all the time. I swear! They are little bullets! Yesterday we rode to the skateboard park and the kids were flying up and down the ramps. Grandpa is pretty impressive up in that there video. Can't do wheelies on my 7-speed Townie Cruiser, though: I have a Gitane 600 Leger racing bike made in France that I bought 42 years ago for $500. As an accountant, what would that be in today's money? It was at one time a top-of-the-line racing bike. The problem is that now days, I get up on that thing and I can't get back down. With the Townie, I can put a foot on the ground while seated, like a motorcycle. I've bequeathed my racer to next door 12 year old. It's kept in my garage, but she can take it out any time she wants to.

Speaking of children, there is another precious, beautiful little girl about to move onto our block. Our own daughter and her husband have purchased the house behind us, across the alley. They will move from Massachusetts to Pratt next month. Her husband is from Kansas and has relatives here, and our daughter wants to be close to her Mommy. She can't get much closer. So that they can get to our house by simply crossing the alley, rather than having to walk around the block due to a locked gate, I removed our steel latch from the gate and built a "Flobby friendly" latch that can be secretly opened from outside the gate.

Sometimes I feel like I'm living in a Mr. Rogers episode.
No, actually, it's more like an Our Gang episode.
