I was amazed by the distorted skeletons below
English Longbow Draw Weight
Shooting the longbow with consistency and accuracy takes much practice. Many English kings made it mandatory for able-bodied men of a certain age to practice archery regularly. This was to ensure that in times of war, well trained and well-practiced archers could be called to arms efficiently. Most archers in medieval England would have possessed considerable upper body strength. Draw weights range anywhere from around 60 pounds to almost 200 pounds for a draw length of approximately 30 inches.
Archer’s skeletons that have been preserved show deformations and enlargements of bones. These stress markers appear on the left arm and right fingers, caused by repeated strain from the use of powerful bows.

That's a great site, stormitoes! I used to really be into archery when I lived in San Francisco, and I spent many a pleasant day at the Golden Gate archery range in Golden Gate Park. I have a Damon-Howitt Diablo recurve and a Howard Hill bamboo longbow. Did you know that the Chinese invented a repeating crossbow using a magazine? I once saw this thing demonstrated on TV. Absolutely brilliant!

Anyone interested in repeating archery should check out Joerg Sprave's Slingshot Channel in particular the Sliding Instant Legolas. Note! This is not a crossbow, but a magazine for a normal bow. He is developing it as a commercial product and I think they first units have been shipped. Mr Sprave has made several variants; this is my favourite He has also built a fully automatic crossbow - squeeze the trigger and it shoots

I've watched some of Joerg Sprave's videos before. He is a mad genius! I love the way he laughs. I suspect that if he'd been around in Medeival times, his inventions could have altered history. He would have out Davincied Davinci when it comes to military weaponry.
