No I don't do static holds. I thought others would like this video. I have been experimenting with his constant tension theory for about two weeks.

A nice endorsements of safe static holds. They're particularly useful for safe strength testing .

Good video and info. I like to hear others take on this. I do max contraction static holds, not posing flexes, where I put my muscles in the position of greatest/tightest contraction and flex as hard as possible with no weights or apparatus. It stretches one set of muscles and contracts the other. It's basically the Dynafelx/Maxalding/Matysek system, about 5 days a week (I tried every day and even with a daily 5 second max contraction find the cumulative effect is too much and I feel run down after 5 days) and feel it keeps me functionally strong. To be strong lifting heavy weights you have to lift heavy weights (only good at what you practice). I don't think these contractions make a person much bigger, at least not in my case, even with prolonged time under tension. I notice my muscles feel rock solid. Not that they didn't with weights, but when I trained exclusively with weights they were like hard rubber, almost like a tire almost like a little bouncy.
I believe to get bigger (hypertrophy) one needs to get a pump regularly. I get a little pump from the additional exercises I do from the Ottley Coulter Strongman Stunts workout (can be found in this sites training courses) and add some others such as free squats or step ups on a chair now and then. I definitely feel the max contractions hit my central nervous system, which I think is where it helps the explosive strength via muscle/mind connection.
The 'supports' and limited range stuff he mentions were done by many strongmen and powerlifters back in the day for short periods and great at breaking sticking points.

I tried a lot of different isometrics. I did do the flexing stuff which I combined with pushups, squats, and situps years ago. It was a fun experiment but I didn't notice much of anything. Hardness was all that I really noticed. Everyone is going to have different results from different styles of training. I tried static holds with weights probably 20 years ago. It was boring as hell so I won't be doing that anytime soon.

Heavy(200#+ rating) resistance bands can effectively be used for timed static holds and are more convenient than heavy weights .

I don't spend any time on "alternative" exercising anymore, experimenting or otherwise. I now do strictly progressive resistance training - weights, bands, and bodyweight. Nothing builds muscle like good ol' tried and proven PR.

Static (isometric) holding is a good supplement to dynamic self-resistance training.

Static (isometric) holding is a good supplement to dynamic self-resistance training. But by all means don't let the temptation of holding something weighted (hushed voice) make you want to move it around any !
