First extra windy day and..."TA-DAAAAAAAAH!", that droopy limb is in the street Mags that's the tree behind Bruce's. It looks like it may have vines growing up it but since I can't make the picture bigger it's hard to tell. Bruce's tree looks good.

Blue Spruces take forever to grow. We planted one in our back yard and it took 5 years before it even began to grow. We've also planted a maple tree in our back yard just so we could have a little bit of New England in the Fall. There aren't very many maple trees around here. I remember You planting the maple. We have a lot of maples up here. Driving through the giant Redwoods of Northern California is definitely on my bucket list.

I'm still confused about the tree behind you. Well, here. Let me move over a bit and you'll be able to see it better.

It does look good, but "just a wee bit more on that left side" like my Irish boss Jimmy used to say, and "take those 'suckers' off the bottom while you're at it".... Later on in the day Jimmy would go to the bar and pick us up our daily lunch of a pastrami hero washed down with 3 Foster's 'Oil Cans' apiece ....

OK, thanks Bruce. Now I see that I wasn't confused about the tree behind them, but when Bruce said not to be confused about the tree behind them, I thought it might be easy to be confused about the tree behind them and this confused me.

In the picture shown above, do you see the evergreen bush on the corner of our porch, under the flag? We had three of those - one on the other side of the stairs and one on the other end of our porch. The one on the other end of our porch died, and we recently replaced it with a new small one. The one next to the stairs was also dying, and we had no idea what was causing this. We thought maybe there was some evergreen disease.
While trimming our tree, the boss walked over to the new evergreen and picked off what looked like a small cone. He said this tree is infested with bag worms, which I'd never heard of. That is what had been killing our trees. He said I need to go through my evergreens, find these cocoons, and pick them off. He said to drop them into some bleach to kill them. I went over each tree with a fine tooth comb and picked off scores of these little suckers. A lot of them were hidden. I had to really search. We didn't have any bleach, so I just dropped them into an empty plastic water jug and then sealed it with the cap. This way those freaking worms would suffocate - a slow, agonizing death- HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! (maniacal laughter).
The next day I went over the trees again, and found two I had missed. I am going to periodically search through those trees in case they start appearing again. In the meantime, we have noticed some bright new green leaves growing out of the bush next to our stairs. We thought that bush was a goner, but maybe it will now come back.

I'm not great with bushes but I have heard of bagworms. That's good You found them. I had bought red tip photinia bushes to form a fence line. I didn't do my homework on them. They are susceptible to some kind of fungus. Of course, all five of them got the fungus. One of them died but the others are looking nice. Bruce the work You've done on Your house and landscape looks very nice. That's a big house.

All the credit for our landscaping goes to my wife. She's been the driving force behind it all. I've just been her grudging beast of burden. I dread those mornings when she gets into her working in the yard clothes and says, "I'm going to need your help." It's, like, there goes my day.

Notice the shared garage between the two houses. The two houses were built by the same family in 1899, and generations of the family grew up, lived, and died in these two houses. Because the properties were both in one family, they built a shared garage. Our neighbors own the garage on the side, and we own the garage in the middle and the shed ajoining it. When we painted our garages, we compromised, our side matching our house and their side matching theirs - sort of like row houses in a city. We only use our garage for keeping tools and lawn implements, so we share that garage with our neighbors who also keep their stuff in there. We already have that shed, so there's no reason to be stingy with all that room.

The two houses were built by the same family in 1899, and generations of the family grew up, lived, and died in these two houses. That reminds me. The family who owned these properties was the Robinsons. They also owned a big house further up Main Street. It's always been known as the Robinson house. I was sitting on my porch about a year ago when a car pulled into our driveway and two ladies got out. One of them introduced herself as Jackie and said she had grown up in this house, and she just wanted to tell me what a wonderful job we've done with house and property. I invited them in to see the improvements we've made inside the house. Jackie pointed out a few things like a closet near the front door, saying that her father built that. After they left it dawned on me - her name is Jackie Robinson. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

It's a beautiful neighborhood, Bruce. Reminds me of the hood where I grew up. Sears Craftsmans, wall to wall.

Such a beautiful day in the neighborhood, would you be mine? Won't you be mine? Won't you be my neighbor?
Church bells chimin' on a Sunday morn, remind you of the town where you were born...
