I believe that man is Alan Thrall (sic), a former, and maybe current, strongman competitor who has quite a few no-nonsense videos with regard to the powerlifts and other types of heavy training...I have watched a few of his videos and in nearly all his emphasis is on form over poundage. In one of his videos regarding diet and reducing body fat, he advised eating a protein and a carbohydrate together, a diet strategy that a former bodybuilding-title-winning friend of mine from years back adhered to...I often saw him eat 3 or 4 glazed donuts following a protein shake or steak dinner. I couldn't argue his results, and as far as he was concerned, the more sugary the carb, the better, but they were never eaten alone; always with with protein.
